  1. Nothing autumnal at all down here.. despite being in a cooler airflow, we are still reaching 22-25C each day and nights are holding up at 13-15C which is pretty average for high summer... I never notice it getting cooler untill at least mid september when nights start to feel a bit cooler, but it's still usually pleasantly warm outside well into October - average max values here for September are 19C, and early October is probably 16-17C.. so a while to go before anything very cool i'd say.
  2. This is one of the best places to live in the UK from my point of view (near Heathrow) as it's the hottest part of the UK during summer, and can still get very cold in winter being close to the continent. For example, the average July max here is 22.8C, and it's pretty rare for it to go under 20C from July to mid August. We also get some good heat here, in 2003 and 2006 near here I recorded 38C and 36C respectively, and generally I can expect at least several days above 30C a year and many above 25C. I also like the warmer nights that come with this, although others don't, as the average min here is about 14C in July - not too hot to sleep in but good enough to sit out in the evenings comfortably, nights below 12C are uncommon. During winter, we benefit fom easterlies and south easterlies, but snow is sometimes the only downside, as apart from streamers we don't tend to get too much. It's also fairly dry and sunny here with about 580mm of rain a year.
  3. People talking of trees losing their leaves already? Usually here a few, and I mean only a few start to fall off in late August, and then its mid-late September before they really start turning brown and falling.. it usually takes untill the beggining of November before they are bare, Although I remember I think 2007 when trees were still fully leaved in October! I'm looking forward to winter, but not at the moment, I will still be looking for heat untill September is out, and then mild conditions untill December.. I hate October/November as it's usually too cold to wear short sleeves (although occasionally it's warm enough in early October on the odd 20C day to wear shorts) but not cold enough to really dress up...
  4. It's been great, but I'd say 7... only because there has been a lack of any real heat unlike past good summers. Also, the benchmark at this point would have been 2006 which would have been very close to 10/10.
  5. I'll drink to that! Although in my ideal world it would be 18C+ all year round!
  6. I just looked at Sydney average weather conditions, and I was actually quite surprised! I thought it would have been much warmer than it is in summer for its latitude and being on quite a large landmass, average summer max temps are about 25-26C which is only about 3C higher than London, although Sydney does have much warmer nights on average at about 18-19C compared to 14C..and obviously Sydney is more prone to extreme heat above 40C. I didn't expect Sydney to average over 1200mm of rain a year though! that's more than double what London gets!
  7. I think the last time I needed to wear a jacket was in early May.. since then it's been shorts short sleeves all the way! My room is still quite warm after the warmth we've had recently so I keep my windows wide open at night to get to sleep..
  8. Probably after mid October here..
  9. It's been great.. who knows how much hotter it could have gotten if high pressure had been positioned more to our east though? Most of our 30C days have come from ridges from the azores high..
  10. Trust me, after weeks of 25C+ it feels a lot cooler than it actually is! It's not really cool, just with the wind and when the sun isn't out it caught me off guard in my shorts and T shirt! I can't even begin to imagine 11.1C in July.. that must be pretty hard to reach, seeing as we are 150 miles or so away from you?
  11. Just 21C today.. feeling rather chilly today as it is a rare below average day for this summer! However, the sun has come out from time to time and it hasn't been a terrible day of just grey cloud..
  12. Just had a large downpour about 30 mins ago.. lasted about 5 minutes.. that's the most rain i've seen since about March or April.. since then we've only had about 50mm..
  13. I'm not sure what the average date is for the first air frost is here.. I suppose hilly areas such as the chilterns are among the first places to get frost down here, but usually I have to wait untill mid-late October... sometimes as late as November for a ground frost.
  14. There have been a few warm nights here in the past month, 18C last night, compared to the average of 14C here.. most of the time it's been between 15-17C which has made it hard to sleep in considering it's still in the low 20s at midnight sometimes.
  15. It's been great down here so far.. I think I must have about 30 days of 25C so far this summer, not including May! And more than 10 days of 30C including May..
  16. A rare 'average' day here for this summer.. reached 23C and started cloudy but the sun started coming through a few hours ago..
  17. Yes, it was a sticky night last night, we got down to about 18C, in the city centre i'd imagine closer to 20C. I'm usually fine with night time temperatures up to about 16-17C, but of course when I go to bed it's usually a good 5C higher.
  18. I start looking usually around late November, but usually we don't have a chance at snow until mid December. I stop looking at around mid February when I start looking for the first 15C of the year (if it hasn't been reached already..) I like snow and cold, but I find that the darkness of winter makes it worse, so I prefer a short but cold winter. Idealy for me, we would have a 2 month cold winter, a 6 month hot summer, and 2 months in between each where it is mild- pleasantly warm!
  19. Haha, each to their own, I guess
  20. I find October and November to be the worst months weatherwise.. I'm hoping for a warm September, and a warm October, maybe a 25C in early October? that would do me nicely.. November i'm not too bothered about, but i'd prefer it to be milder, as I hate the typical November set up of 10C, cloudy, dark and rainy... horrible weather
  21. Definately agree! a rotten excuse for a paper.. along with NOTW and the Daily Mail..
  22. Wow, no idea how they came up with that... but the Tuesday after that.. now that is a possibility..
  23. I never think of September as Autumn. Days are still usually warm here and still above 20C untill after mid month, it's usually at the end of September or even well into October that the weather 'clicks' from being warm to cooling down significantly.
  24. This is why I do not like using CET in itself to measure how good a summer is! I imagine the mean temp so far for some areas in the south is way over 20C, and some areas further north below 15C, it does not tell the picture of how good this month has been in the south and how poor it has been in the north.
  25. Agreed. Although I wouldn't really call it a heatwave, because I think that term is overused whenever it's sunny and warm for a few days, we have had some really great weather recently, plus in the last half of June, the reality is that here in London we've had a month of mostly 25C + temperatures!
