Advanced Watch

Category: Level 3 Warning

Weather type: Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms and Torrential Downpours.

Affecting: Southwest England, Central Southern England, The Midlands and Wales.

Time and Date Valid For: 06.00 Tuesday 28th June - 06.00 Wednesday 29th June 2005.

Time Of Issue: 23.00 Sunday 26th June 2005

Low pressure is forecast to develop over France and the Bay of Biscay during the next couple of days before slowly drifting northwards along with its associated fronts during the midweek period.

Therefore, outbreaks of thundery rain are likely to spread into Southwest England by Tuesday morning, before slowly drifting north and northeast into Wales, Southern England and the Midlands.

Some torrential downpours (rain rates in excess of 32mm/3 hours) are expected at times, and with the rain slow-moving at times, flash flooding could well occur. Driving conditions will also become dangerous. Rainfall totals could be as high as 50mm (2 inches) in places.

This band of thundery rain will then spread further north during Tuesday night and Wednesday, but begin to lose its intensity as it does so.

The overall situation at the moment is still somewhat uncertain, so please watch for updates to this advanced warning.

Confidence Level: 70%

Note: This alert should be considered a guide and we strongly recommend you stay tuned to the Met-Office for further warnings and updates.
