I found this one so difficult, as they are all super photos,

but after changing my mind about fifty times, decided to vote for Anvil Crawler.

Fantastic pictures all, from the serene to the extreme. I have made my vote.

ohhh blimey !!!!!

10 mins later still tossing the coin

anvils picture is superb and simply the best one because you will only get one chance to take a picture of that piece of lightning

well done all and to OON for walking all the way up that hill :D

What a high standard this month (that's not to say it isn't always)! Down to either John or Anvil Crawler..........

...It's got to be Johns, purely because it captures the essence of July better IMO.

Congrats to all the entrants. :D

They are both great images but I'm not ashamed to say I'd prefer Anvil's to win. I actually voted for Anvil's because I will remember July for being hot and, at times, stormy. It's a spectacular lightning photo - all that lightning out of such a little cloud! Incredible.

Ed: Well, okay okay. That's what it looks like because of the highlighting effect. The lightning came from the big grey cloud behind and above it.

A really high standard from all of you. Difficult choice. For me, though, its John's - a truly stunning shot - absolutely beautiful.

Edit - John, I love it so much, I've set it as my background on my laptop.

Thank you all for the kind words and the congratulations.

Thanks especially to Anvil Crawler who provided such great competition. It was the best Meteorological entry by far and the best lightning shot I have seen.

Thanks to all who voted for me and especially those who posted all those kind words.

Winning is great but participating with all nw members is more important and getting to make new friends.

Off out for the evening and talk soon.

I am delighted!!!

Well done John. Great photo and it will make a superb one for the calendar. But commiserations to Anvil Crawler. A close run thing. Shame there couldn't have been space for both.

Just a suggestion, but maybe when the calendar is produced there could be a collection of some of the best of the rest somewhere? I was lucky enough to have one of my photos selected for a calendar a couple of years ago (as Mr January :) - well, not me personally, my photo! :) ) and there were some fabulous finalist pictures which didn't make it, so they printed 13 of them in a panel on the back cover. It worked really well.

Congrats John  and well done to all the others too, they were all great photo's

I totally agree Lou,

I was just lucky to be in the right place at the right time.

The rest of the photos were great too and it really is a very personal thing as to what type of photo people prefer.

I am looking forward to the winter snow scenes from those who are lucky enough to get a chance to take such photos in the UK. We get very little here in Ireland.
