The sun is blank, but I am not sure for how long. With NOAA counting just about an blemish no matter how small or how long it stay on the surface.

Presumably, by now, we are over 800 blank days so far this cycle?

Indeed Steve, very exciting times. In fact on the laymans count we are looking at even lower activity now than cycle 5 (Mauders Minimum). Edited by snowray

I'd agree, with Solar pegged a couple of percent below normal driving a H.P. dominated synoptic we end up with our air conditioner disabled and clearer skies across a warming ocean.......not what we need right now!

To me, it looks like, after a quick burst of energy, the sun's gone back to sleep. Most interesting is the Solar flux dropping back to 69, that is very much a minimum level in any cycle. It had been showing signs of dragging itself up from this level

Yes we did have a period in January/February where it looked like cycle24 was ramping up. Currently back to levels pre October 2009, whether this is a blip & activity will resume, or Jan/Feb was a blip, time will tell.

Perhaps time will tell that Jan/Feb was the solar maximum!! :whistling:http://nwstatic.co.uk/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

Does anyone know what the latest NASA projection is for cycle 24 and 25. It would be interesting to see how much they have downgrade their estinates from say two years ago?

800 is really going for it, especially as it looks as though it's pretty well gone to sleep again.

Solar Wind back down to around 69m which is what you'ld expect during the minimum, not 2 years on the upslope

Isn't it amazing, there was no indication that this latest spot would form as late as 22:00 last night. I suppose is shows that there is still a huge amount we don't know.

Have you seen the magnetic filament at http://www.spaceweather.com ?
