A very strange day. Been sleeting and snowing on and off all day - almost taking turns with eachother. Now it is just rain and funnily enough the temperature is now below freezing at -0.9C. Surely it should be snow! :(

Had the works this morning under temperatures hovering around freezing ; rain, sleet, graupel and wet snow which settled briefly. Some sun late morning lifted the temperature and there's been showery light rain this afternoon.

Max of 4c with a raw SE breeze. 3c now and drizzling.

Hi Michael,

Sods law mate, upper air temperatures have now climbed above freezing, so thus your rain, if your air temps as you say, have dropped below freezing there could well be a glazed frost scenario developing, very dangerous.

Currently here in Burton, heavy snow, turning to sleet, dispite lower temperatures than 3 hours ago, although we have managed another 2cm on top of yesterdays half melted 3cm, i suspect this will all melt overnight as the temperature slowly begins to rise again.

Overcast and cold all day. It was a dry start with freezing fog before dawn, this thinning to mist by 0800, but enought to cover all trees, bushes etc in 0.5cm of rime.

Light snow began to fall around 1130 but didn't really begin to add any depth until about 1300. The snow became moderate-heavy after 1430 rapidly covering the gritted roads and resulting in a mean depth of 12.6cm by 1800.

Temp' at 1800 was -0.5c after an overnight min' of -1.4c and a max' of -0.1c.

Sunshine today, nil

8 oktas stratus and nimbostratus at 1800 with continuous moderate snow falling. Vis' 80 yds

Wind 16 mph E.
