Must say I'm quite surprised only 2 people are higher than my 18.2C. This figure has been exceeded 3 times in the last 12 years, and the synoptics are fairly favourable for something on the warmer side. I don't think a cool July should lull us into thinking it won't be hot at times this coming month. Think of the switch-back last year from a sizzling July to a comparably cool August. This country's weather is nothing but capricious. Like an Aquarian, at the very moment you think you have it, it surprises you.

We shall see! A very very interesting month ahead ...

As I said on the other thread it all depends on how much of a grip the upper high to our SW can get over the Uk. The good news has to be however there are sings that the high is trying to relocate further northwards and while the core is unlikely to really get this far NE as long as its not too far away then always a good chance of some settled weather, even though it'll not be that hot could see some warm-very warm condtions in such a set-up and a far cry from the floods hopefully.

Beyond the 15th and real signs of tropical developments really getting going which will really complicate the pattern, they are the wild card.

I'm an Aquarian and I think I'm tediously predictable! :)

Seriously I'd like to amend my punt from 16.7c up to 16.9c please.

I think we'll see a fair number of 22-25c days with plenty of sunshine. Won't be settled throughout so I think I'll go for an above but not too above average month of 17.1c.

Agree with you 100% here KW. Little doubt about the first HP now coming over. The key is whether the second one sufficiently ridges and settles. And, as you say, there's then the tropical developments. It's going to be fun to watch this one.

Anti-Mild: I don't really believe any of the star sign stuff, although one or two have told me I'm a typical Aquarian!

Evening everyone

Can i have 16.4c for this month,please

Last 22 years the average mean for August is around 16.4c, also in the last 22 years there has been 1 x 19c back in 1995 where the CET was 19.2c . Since 2003 ive noticed a slight fall in the August CET ,

2003=18.3c

2004= 17.6c

2005= 16.2c

2006= 16.1c

Therefore im going for a slightly above average month

Nigel

Boring, but I'm afraid I have to join the big crowd at

16.8oC,

please.

I think it could go as high as the low 17s, as there will be much more - probably a preponderance of - settled, sunny weather. However, I 'm thinking it's more likely to be Azores high with northern resistance than mega Euro high, at least until mid-month, with the main warmth in the south. And those mid-Atlantic temps are still cool....

A mildish 17.3 as the Azores High makes a belated appearance at least for part of the Month.

Rainfall to be average or slightly below, certainly nothing like the deluges of the last few weeks.

well ive been mulling over this for a week or so now and come to the conclusion that I did a week ago! Think it will be warmer than July, but not too warm, more or less average. So I will go for 16.8 degrees which is basically the average over the last 10 years. Think it will be there or there abouts, although I went for 16.4 in July and though that was conservatively cool, so see what I know!
