Area 51 was a top secret military base that did various secret research projects, that's why there was so much denial and cover ups regarding it. There isn't any evidence that they keep aliens or flying saucers that I know of.

And maybe they were testing craft that work by hovering similar to an airbourne hovercraft and at the time people jumped to conclusions.

Maybe the official reasons given, that it was a weather balloon with silver covering is the right reason.

Saves a lot of time and money 'keeping mum' if you can let Joe Public chase around after his own nose and reach his own fantastic conclusions. Trans dimensional travel/visitors would make far more sense (to me) than poor sods travelling for 5 lifetimes just to get here and abduct the most impressionable jerk in the county.......

We can say "we don't know" about many things, but that doesn't mean anything, only that we don't know. Nobody could ever disprove that aliens aren't or weren't kept at Area 51 can they? It's up to the believers to prove their case, not the sceptics to try to disprove it.
