A westerly gale during the early hours led into a dry and mostly sunny morning. Cloud increased quickly around midday and there were a few light showers during early and mid-afternoon. The showers became heavy at times after 1600 and one particularly heavy one a few miles to the north east gave a flash of lightning and a rumble of thunder around 1625.
