brrr it's cold! OK not *that* cold but having been used to mornings when temp was 16-19c for past few months it's a real shock trying to wake up when temps dropped to 11.9c and are still 12.5c now.

Makes it much harder to wake up and perform the morning routine too as you just want to slink back to the warm bed!

Still at least it's bright and partly sunny - and of course dry!

Agree with you Bottesford, there is certainly a slight chill in the air. But for the main part it is sunny, no visible cloud from where I'm sitting and vry warm in the sunshine.

Obviously at the moment I can't speak from personal experience....but I find this "autumn chill in the air" often just a bit of a myth. It depends on the weather completely. There can be an autumnal chill in the air during mid July if you get unlucky with weather patterns. I'd say the reason you have the chill now is just because you're under a cold air mass. Of course the sun will be weakening rapidly but the days are still longer than the nights.

You can just as well have a grotty, muggy day in autumn with no chill whatsoever.

And overnight minima for the UK of ~12C are not bad at all really, that's about average!

Another day another doom and gloom forecast. Will today be like yesterday and all the interesting weather goes elsewhere. Sunny and dry at moment. Feels nice outside and one of those no Jacket required days. Band of heavy rain moving from Ireland but this looks like it will miss us so today could well be a good one.

True - it's just a relative thing. We've been used to mostly warm, muggy nights this summer rarely seeing temps fall below 16c. Now it's much cooler and much less humid - and breezier too. It makes it feel much colder than before allowing a shiver when you get up (I'm always coldest in mornings as I'm most tired!) and hands to feel very cold after the ride to work.

Same temps in spring on the way up would feel much warmer as you'd been used to it being cold all the time.

I do find it hilarious how people complain that it's cold at mid-teen temperatures. Crikey! The sun has predominated for much of the morning and, pound for pound, it's a far better day than many in the summer :) !

First heavy shower of the day right now, plenty of sunshine around, 17c.

After overnight moderate to heavy rain, the day dawned very damp but bright with sunny spells, cloud soon built though, so by reading time showers were threatening. The morning and afternoon saw further sunny spells, with showers, these were heavy towards the end of the afternoon with thunder. Rather breezy throughout.

It`s the strong wind making it feel cooler today coolest day of the summer was 14.6c in June here.

This is the day that it`ll feel colder with a gale force east wind and heavy rain going by this anyway.
