two more different halves of a month just ending would be hard to repeat I would think

Yes it has been an odd month John, here the first two weeks gave a mean of just 0.6c. The mean for final 14 day’s is going to come out around 7.5c. amazing.

Moderate to severe frosts recorded every day for the first two weeks, then no frost what so ever during the last half.

Paul

edit, correction, i did record 2 slight ground frost during the final period, no air frosts though.

Well in my winter forecast (made in Nov of course  ! ) I predicted a cold, wintry end to Feb because that's been a regular feature of my birthday in the 2000s.

However this is the 3rd consecutive 'mild' birthday so that wintry trend is now dead :) .

In fact, for me, it couldn't be more boring than cloudy, calm & mild. At present it's 8.2c with humidity at 78%.

If it was going to be mild I'd rather something interesting like sunshine and a brisk wind like yesterday!

mild but bright and cloudy here with light winds.

pleasant enough, but getting to be a bit monotonous - at least the waterlogged ground is drying out though.

Not been outside yet, but once again the view from my window is an uninspiring one indeed, very low cloud at 150m and spits of drizzle in the air and not much breeze, I really will be glad to see the back of these azores high, it has long outstayed its welcome. We want the sunshine back!

Yes the cloud is beginning to get boring now. For a while I enjoyed a break from being cold and with the periodic sunshine we've had here it's been a lovely change. But it seems sunshine has become ever more elusive so something of a change would be nice now. Can't say I relish the idea of cold & wet again but still - better now than in July!

9c the max so far so same as yesterday by looks of it...

Oh well the last day of 'official' winter has ended on a rather quiet and very dull note in contrast to how the first day of winter opened up.. but unlike recent days there has bit of a chill to the air, so it has very much still felt like a winters day albeit courtesy of the dark grey leaden skies.

First day of official spring will hopefully bring a much brighter day just as it should do blowing away the darkness and gloominess of the winter, in this respect the weather this year does seem to doing just what you may expect as the seasons change, i.e. start of winter = first snows, start of spring = sunshine, (hopefully continue suit with start of summer bringing the warmth and start of autumn bringing the mist and dew, but it never really works out that this but who knows). I'm looking forward to the brighter days in the coming week if nothing else.

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics
