Splitting some photos off from the main thread I posted here as it's taking a while to load now... :) Today, I visited Carlsbad Caverns, New Mexico... the last day before I fly back to the UK. I took all my camera gear down with me and probably looked like a complete fool to everyone with their point and shoots struggling to get a shot in the darkness, but it was worth it :D Here's a load of pics from today, and really I could easily post twice as many. This place is amazing..... I'm not sure the photos quite do the scale justice due to the wide angle lens I used, but the tallest stalagmite pictured is 19m/62ft tall, the main chamber (known as the Big Room) is 1200m in length and up to 107m high in places.

All shots were taken with whatever light was available (it was very dark in places). Exposure times of up to 30 seconds required! :) Thank heavens for tripods :)

Wow, some tremendous shots there Gorky, don't worry, I think you've captured the sheer size of the stalagmites very well, they look amazing! Well done!

It was a great half day or so I spent down there. Unlike the Grand Canyon, which I already knew was a mile deep big-ass canyon, resulting in me being very impressed, but not surprised..... I did no research on these caverns so was totally blown away by what I saw :) There are so many places over here which are beyond belief.....

Pretty cool images there Nath, i know what you mean about the camera not capturing the

immense size of the stalagmites/tites and caverns, its the same for weather pics especially

huge cloud structures....roll on true 3-D . No chasing for you today i gather as the major risk is all

the way up in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky dont want to be driving for 1000's of miles there and back

that would be mad, anyways you'd miss ya flight... or worse..!!
