Just had another look at the radar and interestingly the showers are now moving almost due east, rather than north east as before. Even better than that is a line of heavy showers just east of Stoke which appear to be heading in my direction, all hope may not be lost after all.

Well this is frustrating! EVERYONE seems to have a thunderstorm except for my area!

Could anyone suggest whether the London area is likely to see any storms later on in the day, as the Netweather forecast predicts?

Dont worry mate! you are not alone.

it has so far been very poor for storms above my head :(

At work in Consett, just got the server back on, we've had a couple of power cuts.

Seen plenty of flashes and thunder, just want out of work to see it properly!

Should be a fun drive back to Stanley, still looking very dark to the east :(

Yeah, I would love to be over there right now, on par with a spanish plume MCS, I would imagine. I have seen MCS's with 'worse' radar returns than that.

I've seen purple returns , 1991/4 storm over gillingham/hempstead :( . Had a squall and a reported tornado :)

Your not the only one mate, apart from about 2 spots of rain around lunch time, it's stayed dry here. Looking at the latest radar, those storms currently over the south west could spread to the London area later, they do seem to be moving west.

Is there anyone from the Cambridge area on here who can tell us what it's like there because looking at the Radar and Lightning detector, they are some crazy storms!

I wouldn't be at all surprised if the power was out!

Storms aren't going to be dying away anytime soon for us in Central Southern England are they?

If they do, then DOH! :)

But some extremely impressive thunderstorms to the East, if only I could drive, it would literally take me about 1 1/2 hours! :(

Here too mate.

I have very impressive storms forming a line to my west, and also some decent cells to my south - but nothing here. And they are not far away either.

Well it's what the MetO forecast:

post-5986-1245081379_thumb.png

First wave of storms, around lunchtime, were related to the ones in the feature marked with the X over London, if you look SW you can see two more troughs. These were forecast to travel across the country in a NEE direction, hence the original distribution of oranges on the MetO map. The SE is now included because of a dry-air incursion due to clip the SE later, so any showers that are about will get a boost because of phenomena known as a dewpoint-depression on the parcel ascent.

I think that the Camborne ascent at 12z shows the second trough, and the showers across the mid part of the country are this ones fairly weak affair. The current collection of showers over Cornwall, I think, shows the arrival of the third, and final one.

Here's my guess (and it is a guess, too) ...

post-5986-1245081715_thumb.png

It could well be that the showers currently showing up in Cornwall is the second trough; I'm not sure, though, and it is best dealt with by a professional.
