October, 2009, Lampeter, Ceredigion

Summary

Rather mild, near average rainfall

1st-5th: Mainly dry with near normal temperatures and sunny intervals.

6th: Wet

7th/8th: Cool and dry, first air frost on the 8th.

9th-11th: Unsettled, average temperatures

12th- 18th: High pressure. Dry, apart from light showers on the 15th/16th. Sunny spells. Quite mild by day, some night frosts.

19th- 24th: Unsettled and windy at times, with rain at times, thunder on the 22nd. Mostly mild.

25th- 29th: Very mild deep southerly air stream! All maxima to the months end were in the 15-19c range and all night between 9c and 13c. Mostly dry but sunshine limited. Maximum of almost 19c on the 27th was the warmest so late in the year for some considerable time locally.

30th/31st: Unsettled again but remaining unseasonably mild.

It was only because 25mm rain fell in the 'official' month's last few hours to 0900 on 1st November- that October did not end up on the dry side.

mean temp=11.8C(10.5)

Avge Max=16.9C(14.3)

Avge Min=6.7C(6.

( ) refers to the very long term average 1942-now; one day I'll get round to producing the last 20 years averages.

Highest daytime temperature=21.2C on 6th and coldest day was 20th with 11.3C

Warmest night was 3rd with 13.8C and coldest 2.2C on 9th

rainfall=29.6mm(VERY sheltered), wettest day=6th with 12.4mm; 0.2mm or more=13 and 1.0mm or more=8

No frost, snow, hail or thunder, 1 day with fog at 0900 clock time

The rather unusual statistic is the Avge Max temp; the highest October since I started recording in January 1997 but the mean temp was only the 4th highest-a good indication of just how pleasant many of the days have been.
