Had a series of heavy hail showers in the last half hour which are still lying on the grass, currently 1.5cc, with snow falling and settling down to 200m just to the south of me. If the clear skies to the north across the Firth reach here soon I am sure a ground frost will develop and the hail will remain.

I think you'll find it was hail, some here recently. Unlikely to be sleet as temp here 6.1 and DP 5c.

If you look at the MO 0830 radar image, go up to Inverness and out into the Moray Firth, the showers clearly spell out the word TOES (the e is least clear, but definitely there).

Who, I wonder, is dipping their toes in the North Sea?

I'm a bit surprised the Met office still have the weather advisory out for this area. There's been no heavy rain at all and none in the immediate future as far as I can see from the radar. Of course it's always possible they know something I don't, perhaps as the low moves north east the area of persistent rain to the north of here will pivot over this area, although it looks to me as though it will move south westward into Wales.

Still dry, cloudy and chilly with a very light NE wind.
