Only 4 days left to go...

Todays 12z gfs still showing a very cold day across most parts of the UK,with only extreme south western areas having any milder weather.

Some rain likely for south west england with perhaps some snow on high ground in wales, maybe some snow around for high ground in northern ireland also.

Western parts of scotland mostly dry, north east scotland seeing some wintry showers with a further covering on hills.

All other areas look to be dry and cold.

3 days out...

Not long to go now and todays gfs is similar to yesterdays, with the majority of the UK having a very cold christmas day, with temperatures staying below freezing in some places, somewhat milder conditions in the far south and south west.

A band of rain sleet and snow spreads across the country from the west during the day, with the snow more likely on the hills of wales northwards.

Only a couple of days now...

Not much change from yesterday on todays gfs 12z,a very cold day from the midlands northwards including northern ireland, northern england and scotland.

Less cold further south with some mild air in the far southwest.

Could be some wintry showers over northeast scotland and the far northeast of england during the morning, meanwhile a band of rain and snow spreads in to northern ireland which will reach central areas of england after dark.

Any snow from this front will likely be confined to the hills over northern england, northern ireland and scotland.

Twas the night before christmas...

A generally cold or very cold day across most parts of the UK on christmas day, only areas in the far southwest will have some milder weather with many places still having snow on the ground.

In the morning there will be some wintry weather around in eastern areas of england, with some snow likely on high ground away from the coast, and also some wintry showers in northern and eastern scotland.

For the afternoon and evening a band of rain sleet and snow will spread in form the west, affecting northern ireland first and northern england and southern scotland after dark, most of the snow on the hills but not exclusively so.Also a chance of some sleet and snow over central areas of england as temperatures will be below freezing when the front arrives.

Christmas Day 2009..

Well, here are the actual charts for christmas day,it wasn't until within about 5 days out that the gfs had the pattern about right which isn't bad considering the complicated setup.

Its interesting looking back through the thread at some of the long range charts from the gfs and comparing to what actually happened!

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!
