Its that time of year again, the gfs has generated its first charts for christmas day 2009 so what will the weather be like on the big day itself?;)

I will post the charts from the 12z gfs and try and give a general idea of the actual weather they are showing for the british isles, nothing technical,no AO,NAO or MJO !! just take the charts at face value.

So here we are with the first charts,a whopping 16 days out!

A very unsettled christmas day with a lot of rain around, especially in southern and western areas as milder air tries to spread in from the southwest, fairly cold in the north,a bit milder further south.

Will update daily at around 7pm.:)

That chart doesn't show mild at all. For the south it's showing temps between 2 and 4c and north below freezing!

According to the gfs the temps were about 8 degrees in the south and 5 in the north.

15 days to go and what has the gfs churned out today?

No suprise its a bit different to yesterday at this range with pretty much the whole country under a very cold airmass,a good few places not getting temperatures above freezing all day with lots of snowcover around.

A small low pressure close to northern scotland giving some fresh snow up there, also a band of snow trying to spread into southwestern parts, the rest of the uk looks to be dry and very cold.

2 weeks to go till the big day, what does the gfs say? (free poetry in this thread:D)

Todays charts showing high pressure sitting across the country giving a very cold christmas day with some places not getting above freezing.

Mainly dry weather except for a few light showers on windward coasts.

T'was 13 days to go until christmas and the gfs said......

Very unsettled looking charts today with low pressure approaching from the southwest.

Looks like a raw cold day over most parts with little sunshine, maybe a bit milder in the extreme southwest.

what about north wales and the Wirral.....any chance?

It looks like a close call snow heading north just before xmas turning to rain in south ,according to met office ,hopefully it will stay as snow .

11 days to go now, will we need a snow plough....

Todays 12z charts for christmas day show high pressure over the country, but still with a northerly/north-easterly airflow over eastern areas of england giving some snow showers, especially in the south east.

The rest of the country looks to be bright and dry but still very cold.

10 days out, will the atlantic have enough clout....

Todays 12z gfs charts for christmas day showing an unsettled day across the uk with rain moving up from the south and quite windy with it.

Quite mild conditions in the far southwest of the uk,the rest of the country still fairly cold.

9 days to go until we are all tucking in to our christmas dinner, but what will the gfs serve up?

Todays charts showing a cold fairly unsettled christmas day with temperatures only 2 or 3 degrees above freezing with an easterly wind.Could still be some snowfall around, especially over the hills and northern scotland.

8 days to go until we unwrap our presents, what will the gfs deliver?

Again,a rather unsettled christmas day with some heavy rain around and perhaps some snow over northern hills.

Mild in some southern districts, otherwise still a fairly cold day for the rest of the UK.

7 days to go until christmas day, will the weather hamper santa and his slay?

Only a week to go now so we should be starting to get a fair idea of the general weather pattern on christmas day itself.

Todays charts showing yet again a cold christmas day with some snow likelyover high ground towards the southeast of the country, and some wintry showers further north towards the east coast.

The rest of the country looks to be bright and cold with some very low daytime temperatures in scotland.:cold:

Less than a week until christmas day, what has the gfs thrown our way?

A similar theme to yesterdays charts, still a cold or very cold day across all parts of the country with temperatures not getting above freezing in quite a few places especially over scotland.

Still a good chance of some snow on christmas day for some southern and eastern areas more especially over high ground but not exclusively, also some snow showers possible over northern and western scotland.

5 days to go.....

A cold day across all of the UK with a ridge of high pressure across more western areas giving mainly dry weather.

A different story in northern and eastern areas with an area of low pressure in the north sea giving perhaps some sleet and snow on hilly areas in eastern and southern england, probably rain right on the coast.

Also looks to be a line of wintry showers over north east scotland.

Certainly looks like a festive scene for many parts of the country on christmas day with snow falling in some areas and still some snow lying from any that has already fallen.
