Good morning Peeps!

Wow, what a day yesterday! We ended up with 6 inches in the end (measured on car roof this morning)

It's relatively mild here at -0.7. Overnight low was only -1.7, so it wasn't as cold as previous nights

DP is currently -2.69 and wind chill of -5

Just watching raintoday radar, looks like there are showers about, developing over the Irish sea. Could be headed our way, but next expecting much from them :(

Surprisingly enough i got down to -3.c last night under clear skies but the showers made temp rise to -0.5c which rose in a short space of time.

Anyway probably got a fresh 4cm of snow from last night showers.

Is Heavy Snowing here now.

Had over 8-10 cms of new snow last night, but seems like significantly more new snow on the fields. Its hard to judge but we are close to a foot depth of snow now on the fields yet we only had 6-8 cm's at most of ice / snow before this started.

hey all, what is the general opinion about the risk of more snow tonight, is it another day of radar watching. lol

Morning,

Met office have a warning out for our area's for "Widespread icy roads" tonight. To me this shows that they are predicting the band from the South to hit us, if that was the case we would have to worry about snow not widespread icy roads :bad:.

It all depends if the band keeps it's intensity, and whether it's direction stays on course.

So pretty much another radar watching day

From the forecasts ive seen the ppn doesn't come close to the humber area, so it's just a case of watching the radar later and hopefully it will be further north.

From my local news paper;

Snowfall of up to 10 centimetres coupled with temperatures as low as minus 11 degrees Centigrade transformed East Yorkshire into a picture postcard scene at the weekend.

And more is to come.

Forecasters say that the extreme cold will continue up until Christmas Day – and more snow could be on the way tonight.

Bookmakers in Yorkshire have placed seven to four odds on a white Christmas.

A man from Stamford Bridge has even laid one of the biggest bets in the country that it will snow on Christmas Day.

The East Riding man stands to win £6,000, plus his £2,000 wager, if even a single flake of snow falls from the sky on Friday.

And he could be lucky. Dave Cox, a Met Office forecaster, said the chances of a white Christmas are high. "There is some rain, sleet and snow showers coming up from the south west on Christmas Eve, which, if it comes high enough north, will hit Yorkshire," he said.

Because temperatures will remain cold over the week, much of the snow that has already fallen will not be going anywhere.

"Even if we do not get more snow, it will still be lying there, which should be rather festive."

Over the weekend, snowmen peppered the parks and sledges were dusted off and put to good use in Hull and the East Riding.

Six daring athletes from the local Barracuda Triathlon club took part in a Winter Training Triathlon on Saturday.

As well as braving the freezing temperatures in a wet suit, they plunged into a lake near Beverley swimming 100m, cycled 6km and finished with a 1.5km run.

Race organiser Mike Beadle said: "Getting cold and wet is part of the fun."

Humberside Police reported no major accidents over the weekend, but said conditions for drivers "remained grim".

Richard Found, supervisor in the police command centre, said: "All roads are technically passable, but with varying degrees.

"The highways team have been out gritting but, the problem over the weekend, was there wasn't the volume of traffic to push the grit into the snow, which is what is needed.

"We will have the same problem this week, as many people have finished for Christmas now.

"It was as low as minus 11 degrees Centigrade on Sunday morning, so it is petty grim on the roads."

The one thing I have noticed is that the Met office and most of the ppn charts had the eastern side of this block of ppn hitting the coast nearer Dover, then swinging around through east anglia and east lincolnshire.

It seems to have landed quite some way west of this, and is moving NNW.

There might be some surprises, you never know!

Got down to -1.7c last night, currently 0.7c. No evident thaw apart from off the roofs (which you would expect). Will get some pictures in a bit. I suspect this snow will be around till the mid air comes!

dont know if anyone has seen the updated met office warnings for heavy snow.

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/yh/yh_forecast_warnings.html

Currently it is a little more NW than expected, the eastern and southern side of Lincs will possibly be the best bet to see any precipitation coming up from the south, be interesting to watch the track of this feature and how the models performed with it.

Already 1.6c here, thaw taking place.

How rural are you? Its still 0.8c here, about three hours of warming left before it should start cooling around 3pm. Hopefully a very cold night to come!

Not rural at all, part of the suburbs. 1.8c now!

The thaw isn't occurring on the ground, on objects such as bins and roofs and plants, the snow on the ground is still intact.

Snow always melts off cars and roofs first, what with the central heating and metal conducting the heat from the sun. Should start to freeze again soon hopefully!

The temp is really struggling to rise here and it's currently at 0c cold.gif

It was the same here half an hour ago. Went outside this morning and thought it felt mild!

When I checked the car showed -2!! We have been spoilt recently.
