The coldest night and day I've recorded since I moved to Reading in 2002. Mainly sunny after a few snow flurries in the morning. Currently clear, -2.5 deg C, wind light N. Today's maximum -0.9, last night's minimum -6.8. In fact this is the first true ice day (9am-9am) I've recorded here, although I have had a couple of days in the past when the temperature hasn't reached 0 deg C by 6pm but has climbed above that later.

Coldest January day since 1987 at -2.1c other only scraped -5c the same as last January`s coldest day.

Exceptional cold today!

Clear, calm and a very severe frost last night.

Unbroken bright sunshine, persistent frost and an ice day. Near calm. Bit of thawing on sunny banks and roofs.

Distant shower streamer passing some 40-50 miles away to the west and SW over Cardigan Bay and Pembrokeshire was a feature all day long.

Even more severe frost this evening.
