What a contrast between 2008 and 2009. I remember 2008 being a warm one but not that one. I remember vividly the 1995 and 1997 bank holidays being very good. Compared to the first few bank hols in the list the majority since have not been particularly cold, this year could buck that trend....

I well remember the first one in 1978. It was an overcast day with thick fog and persistent drizzle and light rain driven by a f 5-6 NE wind. The max' here was just 4.4c and this still stands as the lowest May max' temp' on record.

The 1995 one was memorable (it was a week late for the VE day thing); 26C on the Saturday, 22C on Sunday, barely 10C on the Monday.

1997 was similar in some respects; it was in the low 20s over the weekend and snowed in many parts a few days later (think it was the Tues or Wed). 1987 I can vaguely remember seeming really cold after that warm April.
