ended up again with a nice day with a fair amount of sunshine.

Trying to forecast if/when/how much cloud will cover this area when the flow is off the North Sea is always fraught, regardless of models, radar and satellites. 30+ years ago was hard and nothing seems to have changed today. One day perhaps forecasters will 'crack' the problem.

Its a very fine line today, just east of here down into the east Midlands and a lot of cloud, here, north and west large holes in the cloud since late am.

After a clear start to last night the North Sea cloud spread back in during mid-evening and persisted for the rest of the night. A cloudy start to the day but, contrary to the forecast, the cloud sheet broke up and dispersed by 1000 g.m.t, even earlier than yesterday, and it's currently dry and sunny with 1 okta Stcu.

The temp' is 9.4c after a min' of 5.1c

Rainfall in 24 hrs ending 0800 g.m.t, nil

Mean wind speed, 7 mph NE

Vis', 40 km.

see my post below TM about how hard it is to get it right!

First single-digit maximum since May 2nd here, with the max reaching just 8.9º. Overnight low was 1.1º with the minimum ground temp of -2.1º, so another ground frost.

Cloud cleared just after my last report, but not soon enough to raise the temp much. As a result of the cloud clearance the temp has dropped down to 2.7C this evening, however seems to have leveled off for now and is stuck at 2.8C
