:smiliz23: only 8 thunder days here during 2010, even that low figure is more than some places had, im hoping for some decent plume events or a few good night time storms this year

Tutiempo's stats aren't 100% reliable but they are pretty good- I remember comparing my own observations of sleet/snow/thunder at Cleadon with the Tutiempo.net ones for Newcastle Weather Centre and they were very closely correlated.

I`ve just been looking at that site looking at temps mainly but not thinking the thunderstorms were shown on that site, ans I`ve just found out what I`ve been looking for all this time.

And heres the charts, really quite happy I`ve found this week of thunderstorms.

There was 7 days shown that month alone,it was hot and humid at the beginning that would fit perfectly

Have to check for the year now, that site won`t of picked up on just tamer thundery showers(few rumbles odd flashes)Just been comparing that site august 2004 also gave 7 days of thunderstorms,I recorded 9 days so that`ll do nicely.

Summer of 1988 only gave 1 day,1987 July as I thought I couldn`t remember anything was 0 days.

This is from shawbury gives a general idea.

Late May 1989 and early june showed a thunderstorm I`ll have to check these charts.

May 10th 1993 date was shown and that is without doubt one of the top thunderstorms I`ve ever encountered.

According to Tutiempo's stats, the most thundery June in the Newcastle area in the last 40 years was June 1980 with thunder on 9 days, which is remarkable- I don't think anywhere beat Cleadon's total of 7 days in July 2009, so it probably stands as the month to beat for the North East.

http://www.tutiempo.net/en/Climate/NEWCASTLE_WX_CENTRE/06-1980/32450.htm

The first "wave" of thunderstorms resulted from the hot, unstable southerly regime and subsequent breakdown in the first week, while the daily storms on 22-26 June were caused by a slack polar maritime regime, with sunshine and showers by day and intense, slow-moving downpours developing on the afternoons- a colder version of the sort of setup that often brings thunderstorms to the near-Continent. The rest of the month was predominantly dull, cold and wet by the looks of it though!

Verry good chart, Although there was a slight drop from 1961 to 1990 (chart below). Also the days with rain has been droping... Not sure though. Because you can get rumbles from heavy rain :unknw:. Well, this is out of my knolage.

With my above post We had less rain that thunder days, that means the hot weather makes CAPE and then you get a shower that grows into a storm.

Just had a look at the records on this site http://www.tutiempo....rport/38390.htm and interestingly (if they are correct) Exeter Airport recorded a dismal 1 day of thunder in the entire summer quarter of 1994.

If that is correct then its not a summer I would want to repeat if I was stuck here, as it wouldn't be very good for my frustration levels!

Thank you so much for that link! I've been searching for something exactly like that, so that I could do a little research on the frequency of thunderstorms recorded in Coventry. :)
