Currently on holiday with family in Cleremont, Orlando. Fascinating storms at the moment, heavy rain, hail and tornado warnings. Seeing rotation from some of these storms but no funnel clouds or tornados yet.

Just a taster for my storm chase in June.

Supposed to be out getting a sun tan!!

yes mate, been up for 2 hours now woken up by the thunder. Exciting storms so far this morning but only straight line gusts. Watching channel 9 at the moment and another cluster of storms reported north of Tampa heading our way, so another tornado warning issued. Watch is in place until at least 1300. Looks like our plans for Universal Studios is off for today, and sunbathing a write off lol.

Looks like we'll have to go shopping in the factory outlets instead.

Cold front should be to our south tomorrow so hoping for a better day and yes next tuesday and wednesday could see all this start up again.

will keep you posted if anything exciting happens and look forward to meeting you on tour 4 :-)

Just missed Tampa Bay as well.

As Jim says it looks like the South Side of Clermont will be affected, The Storm (Supercell) is the Tail End of the Line and is Right Moving (ESE) Which usually supports Tornadoes as apposed to the ENE Moving Squall Line. There is another Tasty Storm about 75 Miles offshore from Clearwater which is taking the same track.

cheers coast, have found that one on orlandojustweather.com

from what i'm seeing, it looks like the tornado warning activity is on the front southern edge of these storms, guess this is usual?

all quiet here at clermont at the moment, just dark!!

one question puzzles me, these areas of storms are moving at 50-60mph, how do you keep up with these things when you are out storm chasing in the mid west?

Strong winds pull cruise ship from Florida dock

Associated Press, 03.31.11, 06:41 AM EDT

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - Strong winds from a passing storm in central Florida separated a Carnival cruise ship from its dock at Cape Canaveral.

Officials say storms rolling through the area Wednesday afternoon pulled the Carnival ( CCL - news - people ) Pride from its moorings at the Port Canaveral dock. The ship had stopped for a day-long port call during its seven-day voyage from Baltimore.

Carnival spokesman Vance Gulliksen says crew and some guests were aboard the ship when the wind gust hit, but no one was injured. The ship was returned to the dock, where it remained late Wednesday. It was unclear when the Pride would leave

A semi truck overturned on Interstate 95 in Brevard County on Tuesday afternoon because of high winds from a storm, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The 2007 Volvo truck, which was towing a trailer, was traveling southbound on the entrance ramp to I-95 from a rest area at the mile 126 marker about 5:11 p.m. when heavy wind from a tornado flipped it onto its left side.

The driver, 41-year-old Robert Thoice Wynne of Berlin, Ga.,sustained minor injuries. He was transported to Parrish Medical Center in Titusville.

Most of the Storms In May move along at between 25 & 35mph so it is a lot easier, add into that Florida is a Mare to Chase because of Heavy Traffic and Holidaymakers whereas the roads are gridded and Empty in the Plains (Apart from the Chasers) and you can easily keep up, obviously a lot of thought has to go into where and what roads we need to take to intercept judging it on Storm Speed and Car Speed and what way the Storm is/or might be moving. That is where the Team come into the fray, with the GPS Man working with me very closely

Thankfully the Storm has weakened quite considerably. Tornado Warning remains on this Storm but looking a bit linear now and not Supercellular.

Tampa Bay could be in some Trouble in the next 30-60 minutes though by the way that Storm is Tracking Offshore. Definate Waterspout Material that one, Jim get yourself over to Tampa LOL

new tornado warning issued from brooksville to bushnell, path runs just to north of clermont

Reply back from my buddy, he's not too concerned currently as it's due pass just to the north of him.

A strong storm system sweeping off the Gulf is hitting the Florida coast this morning, starting north of Tampa and marching south. A tornado touched down about 9:18 a.m. near Kathleen in Polk County and was heading east at 60 mph. Also, a tornado was reported about 9 a.m. near Bruce B. Downs Boulevard in New Tampa. A tornado warning is issued for Hernando County, southeast Citrus and central Sumter counties after weather service radar indicated a tornado in the air near Weeki Wachee and moving east at 45 mph. The tornado could be near Brooksville, Weeki Wachee and Bushnell. The National Weather Service extended a tornado warning for northern Polk until 10:15 a.m. after another tornado was reported in the sky but not on the ground near Gibsonia, about seven miles north of Lakeland, and moving east at 40 mph. It should be near Gibsonia, Polk City, Lake Alfred and Haines City.

The weather service also has received several reports of tornadoes on the ground in northwest Hillsborough, particularly around Odessa and Lutz.

Heavy rain, some falling up to 4 inches an hour, has flooded roads in Pasco, including U.S. 19 around Grand Boulevard and State Road 54. Also Moog Road around Dove Drive was closed. The storms will reach farther south later in the day as the squall lines in the Gulf head east, some at 50 mph. A tornado watch is in effect for all of West Central Florida until 1 p.m., meaning conditions are right for tornadoes to form. All Pasco County school buses will run 30 minutes late to let the worst of the storms pass, a school official said. The county's automated telephone system started notifying parents at 7:30 a.m. All schools will be open, however, Jeff Morgenstein, a district supervisor, said.

The storms closed Pasco-Hernando Community College, and students and faculty members were told not to come to class. There are no reports of damage at Hillsborough schools. The district sent an email notice to all schools, warning of possible tornadoes. The email told county schools to review emergency procedures that include having students stay in classes and away from windows. Also, some county school buses, especially in northwest Hillsborough, may be delayed. In Pinellas, the city of Tarpon Springs has set up a sand bag station at the City Marina at the end of the sponge docks on Dodecanese Boulevard in anticipation of a high tide at 11:42 a.m. and more heavy rain approaching the area. Storms with gusts of 45 mph and possible hail have moved toward inland parts of Pasco and Hillsborough and extend along part of Interstate 4. Utilities reported thousands of customers without power in Pinellas, Hillsborough and Pasco. Power lines are down in the 3700 block of Lake Padgett Drive near Land O' Lakes.

The National Weather Service reported trees down near River Ridge Boulevard in Pasco and there were reports of trees down at an apartment complex near U.S. 19 and State Road 54. The front spawning the severe weather was expected to move south through the region in the afternoon, so the rain could linger throughout the day for some parts of the Tampa area.
