We had the below fly into the bedroom last night. I managed to catch it in a cup which I sealed to then have a better look

and identify today.

Having looked at various pictures online I am fairly sure it's a female May Bug (Cockchafer) but have never seen one before.

(No beetles were harmed in the making of this thread!)

I'll second that but I see or hear them most years.

Cheers

Do share.

We were mobbed by them on Beachy Head a few years ago when Paul came down to chase at Eastbourne, he was like a windmill trying to fend them off!!!!

I usually see these beetles in early june flying around small trees, they make a low buzzing sound, and have barbs on their legs, if they land in your hair it takes some time to untangle them.!

I had one of those bugs land on my shoulder recently. I was outside listening out for thunder, as you do, with the outside on, and there were several of them which were buzzing around and banging into things. Luckily, I knew what it was, so I wasn't too scared  Anyway, I got my son to take a picture, so I'll see if I can dig it out :)

Edit:

I've found it. Sorry for the poor picture quality
