I have a regular digital camera, it's good quality but nothing professional.

It's 14 Megapixel and I can't afford a top notch camera or video recorder.

What kind of results can I expect? Am I still capable of getting good footage?

I see no reason why not. Many of the lower to medium end cameras produce excellent results these days. DSLRs are great if you require various functions or interchangeable lenses but for everyday use I would imagine what you have will do an excellent job.

On Manual settings i am sure you can get some stunning shots. If you don't mind me asking what camera is it?

    This one.

Do you have any tips for how best to capture things like sunsets and storms?

I played around with it last night when we had an amazing sunset, but I couldn't get the deep red colour.
