Just for a change its raining again up here on the isle of lewis. as a whole the entire north west of scotland has seen its fair share of rain recently!

However, in contrast, parts of north and west Scotland have had a wet season, with Argyllshire recording 577.6 mm of rain, well above the long-term average of 422 mm.

so whats causing this unseasonal weather?

Too much high pressure over Greenland and the west of Ireland i guess? as it's acting as blocking pattern sending all the bad weather over the UK, as per other summers, unless there is a big change expect things to stay as they are now.

More northerly tracking Jet?

The jet isn't that far north at present - indeed it is buckling due to stronger heights to our north and over mid atlantic - trough action has been very stubborn to move away from west coast of scotland since early May now and I don't see amajor shift in its position for sometime yet - conversely we have had an airstream predominantly from a westerly source since early May trending southwesterly and northwesterly from time to time never - never good for NW Scotland - the moist atlantic winds help to increase intensity of any precipitation in these parts.

Further south here in the Lake District we have been spared a bit from the endless rain and showers but we have seen much cloud and many overcast days with showers or moderate spells of rain - our worse weather comes when low pressure takes a more traditional SE-NW path with very moist southwesterlies/westerlies and slow moving waving troughs and sudden secondary low developments - a synoptic not often associated with early summer but which can become common later in the summer esp August. An extreme version of such synoptics delivered the awful flooding in Nov 2009.
