Very sunny start quickly gave way to a couple of beefy showers then mainly cloudy but dry as the showers passed to the north and south, calm at present. 15.2C, 1010mb

Today's observations in North Durham:

Sacriston: 13.1C (High: 17.8C)

Great Lumley: - (High: 16.3C)

Durham North End: 13.3C (High: 17.1C)

Durham Gilesgate Moor: 13.3C (High: 19.2C)

Questionable high at Gilesgate Moor, but there was a possible extra breeze that added to the temperature, overall a day where a cool breeze has reigned in, and sunshine with some short heavy rain bursts earlier. Cloud now pushing in during the evening set, a cool feeling night - minima should be high though, as a heavy rain band arrives overnight.

Durham University's hour high was 16.3C at 1400, as of 1900, it's at 13.6C.

A distinct autumnal feel to conditions today. Awoke to heavy showers and cool temperatures. The morning did brighten and dry up but with further short loved showers on and off through lunchtime and into the afternoon. The evening saw a quick descent into dusk, the nights are certainly beginning to draw in, I believe we see the greatest loss of daylight day on day from now on through to mid october. It is currently raining quite hard, and it looks like it will stay this way right through to dawn - easily likely to see an inch overnight - active weather fronts from off the atlantic can easily deliver an inch to the Lake District and often much more.
