Very heavy rains now moving in towards South/SW England, shown on the radar snap below, the weather system is likely to cause flooding in some places throughout today with run of water from higher ground and excess water into rivers creating a delayed flood effect, the flood risk is there and would be a risk after the rain has stopped.

What is a concern is some areas have already seen alot of rain and as shown on radar some very heavy and prolonged rains moving in.

    NAE - 00z

It is only drizzling here right now but I assume that much worse is to come going by those rainfall radars.

Light-moderate rain so far all day here with the odd brief respite now and again lasting 5-10 mins. Worst of it looks like it'll be to the SW of here. The amount of traffic incidents around this area has been crazy and not looking forward to rush hour tonight...

Gosh! when will this rain ever stop! it's been raining since last night. I think our river will be okay though as there's no warnings out!

Mind you, I have to worry when publications describe Cornwall, Devon, Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and Swansea as being in the East of the country...... doh.gif

This is first long rainy day I've seen for a while...my car looks cleaner, all the dusty sand has been rinsed off it! :) (Until it dries out tomorrow)

MORE than a centimetre of rain fell on Gloucestershire this morning as the long dry spell finally came to an end.

A Met Office spokesman said 10.4mm of rain has fallen since midnight according to measurements taken at the Little Rissington weather station at around midday today.

While residents in South Devon were under a weather warning with up to 40mm of rain due to fall there, no warnings have been issued for Gloucestershire.

The spokesman said the rain in Gloucestershire was due to continue until later this evening stopping at some point between 9pm and midnight.

    I agree with the MetO.

10mm of rain does not warrant a weather warning, maybe a advisory to traffic due to wet roads.

Heavy rain all day here. Didn't expect it to be as heavy here.

Yet here just 15 miles or so away we have had only light rain — just 6 mm. I was hoping for a bit of a soaking.

It's only raining lightly here now and has made the ground wet and damp.

An extremely isolated event by the looks of it!

We certainly havn't had 50mm of rain here!

Had about 40mm here since yesterday afternoon so including heavy showers later yesterday evening. More than I was expecting and I slept though much of it in the night so it didn't seem quite such a big fall.

It looks as though there has been lots of surface water about on the roads and some streams and rivers quite high. Not near flooding though like they can with these totals despite the recent rain before this. I guess this is because of the dry autumn and year before this and the fact the rain was quite drawn out although there were heavy bursts.

I would say it was worth the yellow advisory in this area though.
