Looks like it's giving the Manchester area a glancing blow, it's slowly edging further south. The snowdar shows it a mainly sleet/rain mix in North Wales, but further inland in the North West it's falling as snow. Mancheter City Centre will aways have that city micro-climate so we need even more favourable conditions for lying snow here.

I am not so sure about that...one of my friends over your way reported heavy rain that turned to big fat snow flakes..and the temp shot down to 0C, then

it turned back to light rain / sleet....your beginning to feel the affects of the mersey anyway

Well moderate snow still falling. 1-2cm of snow on the ground. 0.5C. :D

Nothing here at the moment, the main band of precipitation appears to be to the West of us and moving SE. Looks like we will miss out on the action this afternoon. :(

Another moderate to heavy snow shower passing now, sticking to cars and grass but struggling on pavements and roads.

I can concur with you, heavy snow for a good few hours now. In these (increasingly rare) situations the south of the region has its revenge

850hpa levels take the backedge of this trough in a line from Liverpool to Stoke and beyond (as far as the convection lasts within the base layers at least.) Northerlies swinging behind it cutting off the flow but this is influence from the batch of showers out in the NE trying to form as a surface low (not going to happen however.) So when this slacks off as the showers in the NE die out, eyes back on the Irish Sea once more as vectors swing NWly again.

Just had a heavy dollop of snow here in Birkenhead - only sticking to already accumulated patches - mostly melted and sky looks to be brightening from the Irish Sea

Rain here now. Snow disappearing very quickly.

Breakdown guy turned up to get into gritter.

Decided to use all his training and adopt a tecnical approach.

Tried to crowbar door open but failed.

Asked to borrow wire coathanger to break in which was successful.

I wonder what tools he had in his van......
