I would hate to think what this would have done in the winter with those 300mph jetstreams we had. Probably would have been very deadly. One to keep an eye on though this bugger.

Watching it on SAT24

A bunch of charts from me to illustrate the potential for high winds and strong gusts associated with that Southerly tracking, unseasonal low:

Winds cranking up in Scotland and the NW later in the day, some high winds in the SE along the coast:

Gusts higher in the SE right over the headlands of Sussex:

Helicity could bring some tornado activity in the blue areas:

The theme for today? Rain and lots of it with plenty of gusty winds, more so in the South?

A windy start to the day here with gusts up to 40mph and its still meant to pick up a bit more through the night.

Looking at other areas Dundrennan looks to be the windiest place at the moment in North Western England recording 47mph gusts.

Other area's recording high gusts,

Donna Nook North Eastern England 41mph gusts.

Isle of Man 45mph gusts.

Malin Head Northern Ireland 43mph gusts.

Also Northern France some places are reporting just over 50mph gusts.

Currently gusting to 52mph here but apart from the wind its dry and some sunny spells around.

First of all about an hour or two ago Northern France recorded a 66mph gust that's got to be rare for them in April. Wind there is currently dropping and you can see it starting to increase here in the UK. The center of low right now is over South Western England.

Channel Light Vessel 45mph to 58mph.

Isle of Portland in Southern England 35mph to 47mph.

Donna Nook North Eastern England 35mph to 44mph.

Dundrennan North Western England 35mph to 48mph.

Malin Head Northern Ireland 38mph to 46mph.

Also a high res sat image of the low,

This stormy was so crappy with the weak of the flurry of storms yesterday.

This storm could be develop to be a weak ex-tropical storm with a long string of storms should impact the continent in the next few days with heavy burst and heavy bands of rain could be a likely to be a squally showers with the longer period of time but there are drought conditions with floods warnings.

A long string of storms could be likely a intense to be a supercell is steady rain over a longer period of time will occur a soaking in the next couple few days, but perhaps hurricane force winds packing with the severe storms developing, and can liable lead to flooding with the many of intense hurricanes.

Britain needed rainy day with the low pressure this weekend through Tuesday but Europe will facing summery warmth late next week.

They don't usually make a video for something like this.

Actual words from the Met Office

April has been a very unsettled month and looks set to end on a stormy note across the southern half of the UK. An intense area of low pressure is forecast to approach the south of England on Saturday night and Sunday bringing up to 50 mm of rain and winds gusting in excess of 50 mph in exposed areas.

Imagine getting a November 2010/December 2010 this May, it quite possibly could happen if we got cold enough upper temperatures and fairly decent cloud levels. Imagine a video on that. ahah

More stormy UK and Europe early next week.

The first storm will move through the UK is central Ireland Monday and Monday night, localised flooding with the rain won't be particularly heavy can still result as rivers and streams remain high.

A second storm will head toward northern France or southern England for Tuesday. This storm will send about the mainly light to occasionally moderate rainfall across Wales and England.

More stormy may return to the UK next weekend that it could might be heavy rainfall with squally showers but it could be run it off with the drought conditions are likely to be less than average rainfall above normal.

Some very unsettled weather on the way for Sunday.

In the early hours of Sunday a low pressure system develops to the South of Iceland and starts to deepen quickly.

Around 9am very strong winds will be situated to the West of Scotland giving average speeds of 40mph with gusts of 50mph I think the top gusts on Sunday will be in the 60mph range.

In the late afternoon and into the evening very heavy rain for Western Scotland.

Rain is bad enough to get a warning from the Met Office,

Wet and very windy weather will affect Scotland during Sunday. The rain will be persistent and heaviest across western Scotland. In addition, gale force southwesterly winds will affect many places with severe gales along exposed parts of the West Coast.

The public should be aware that the combination of heavy rain and gales may lead to travel disruption.

Also in the early hours of Monday morning to the far East of Iceland very high wind speeds are forecast for there at about 65mph bringing gusts over 80mph something not often seen in May.

Some odd weather we are having, Winter 2012 pretty much is still going. Interesting to define when it probably started.

Busy eastern Atlantic picture today - winter type storm to the north and possible early tropical cyclone formation near the Azores.

This chart wouldn't look out of place during a disturbed spell of weather in October. I'm impressed smile.png

Gale force winds currently affecting Western Scotland the the coasts of Northern Ireland with gusts reaching 50-60mph. Could be some disruption with falling trees and debris as alot of the trees are now coming into leaf coupled with the heavy rainfall in these areas making for hazardous road conditons.

The band of rain will be into Northern England this afternoon with gales affecting northern Irish sea locations and over the high ground.

The extended period of unseasonable weather goes on.....

Gusts of 41mph here in association with the encroaching front, a couple of Lenticular's also around with the warm front and clearance were currently in. Atlantic inbounds obviously making the best of the upper's looking at the contrailed sky out there.

View northwards with the frontal banding just evident above the horizon, a darker grey band.

Certainly breezy on the tops above Baslow today but quite a lot less so down in the valleys-excellent visibility on the tops as well.
