I'm pretty sure that GWW could be seeing some wintry showers soon. Elsewhere, there's a small chance of something wintry, particulary in the NE. Nonetheless, even if you don't see any May wintryness, it'd be great that somewhere in the UK is experiencing wintry weather. Of course, the potential for frost is there which would be of real concern for farmers and gardners. It's hard to believe that such weather could follow the 18C and glorious sunshine of today and I sure hope that we get a proper May of sunshine, warmth, variety and that illusive May wintryness.

So post your wintry weather reports in here if see any of the white stuff falling from the sky.

From where I am down south it don't seem that the current May weather is that much removed from winter - max today a little above 8C, though little cooling tonight with overcast conditions, mins expected to drop to freezing over the weekend. I am now getting impatient for some nice settled weather and decent maxima.

Snow and frost is great in the winter but it is only just over 3 weeks to summer now..

Very occasionally but usually it's just the odd shower, this weekend, however, looks to be a bit more than that and I wouldn't be surprised if we see a dusting of lying snow. -10 uppers in May is fairly unusual!

It's just a shame the really cold uppers couldn't be advected further south to cover much of the UK. Not to shabby at all to have -10c 850's during May - That doesn't happen every year. Only 7 weeks until the longest day!

Enjoy the late season winter weather, you might even get a decent dusting of snow. good.gif

Some NE parts could see some snow in any heavy showers overnight but they will be a blink and you miss it affair.

Uppers will stay below -5 degrees over the northern half of the country for the next 48-60 hours at least - longer over Scotland with many parts seeing below -8 degrees and the extreme north -10 degree uppers, anywhere with a bit of height in NE Scotland say 200m could see a light dusting over the weekend with snowflakes down to lower levels. N Eng the snow unlikely to settle below 600m, N Pennines and Cheviots could see a dusting. However, any showers do look very light and shortlived, if we saw a shortwave/trough descend down from the north then we would be looking at another 6 May 1997 event with widespread low level snow for northern parts - alas not going to happen.

Monday provides potential for places with a bit of height in cenral/north scotland, wet snow likely down to about 300m and the Highlands could see a real pasting - certainly very promising for the Ski resorts, last year the season ended exceptionally early, this year it is on a par with 2010.

Snow in May in Scotland at least isn't that unusual. Late May 2010 delivered heavy snow to quite low levels in NE Scotland, I remember there being snow at around 350m before things became much warmer at the tail end of the month.

Woke up to a light covering of snow this morning and there have been further snow showers. Looking like the showers may get a bit heavier for a time this afternoon and evening :)

I heard that there was a snow flurry here at 11am. Quite remarkable and it's turned out not to be a bad day with sunshine.
