On the afternoon of Sunday, 13th August, 2006 parts of west Surrey recorded over

100 mm of rain within a five-hour period, far in excess of any daily rainfall in this area over

the last three decades. This is nearly twice the previous highest 24-hour total observed

by John Winterton at this site over the last 30 years. The highest daily total known to

the authors is 118 mm at Virginia Water but over 100mm also fell at Ash, a few kilometres

further south-west.

An article on the storm.
