Just wondering what is the highest max the country has recorded so far this summer. Don't think 29 degrees has been breached yet... though we might have seen this figure in late May.

Most places have seen most days below 70f, with 16's, 17's and 18's very common in the south, and in the north, 14's and 15's.

The number of days hitting 25 degrees or above at say Heathrow must be quite low, nut not exceptional for this stage in the year. We are now entering high summer when a run of maxima of 25 degrees or above becomes more likely and for the south 70f becomes the average maxima, in London 22 and 23 degrees is the average.

I class the period 15 July - 15 August as high summer and the warmest period of the year, it is true peak summer.

29c has been breached in late June at Gravesend and Writtle. Think 28.6c was recorded. I'm hoping we can still get a 30c!

24.4c the summer max on 5th July for me. Highest of the year was 26.7c back on 28th May.

Similar summer records to 2007 really.

The maximum here for the summer so far is 21.8c on June 27th and 28th. The maximum for the year is 24.2c on May 24th.

The highest so far in July is 20.8c on the 5th. In the last 35 years only two Julys have failed to reach 21.1c ( 70f ), 1988 with 18.5c and 2007 with 20.5c. In 1998 the max' for July was exactly 21.1c.

It's too early in the month to start getting really interested in the prospect of a third.

The highest so far this year at this site is 27.2 on May 24, with the summer maximum being 26.7 on June 28. Since then the best we've had is 23.2 on July 3.

Looking at Philip Eden's site, I notice Thorney Island didn't reach 20C at all in June, truly exceptional for a location on the south coast where 20C is the average maximum for the month.

Highest for the summer here a woeful 20.2C. That was beaten three times in March from the 25th to 27th while May has recorded the years highest temp so far of 23.4C.

I really would not be bothered if the rest of the summer saw nothing warmer so long as we saw plenty of sunshine and an end to the perma cloud and 13C maxes.

23.7C on the 28th June is the highest here. After that the next highest is 21.4C on the 8th July, then 20.2C on the 1st June.

So only 3 max temps above 20C and 2 above 21C so far this summer.

Edit: We did of course reach 27.5C in may, with 9/10 days from the 22nd-31st exceeding 20C, but that wasn't in summer. There were 2 days above 20C in March too.

highest here is 30th May 26.8C, the day of the 0lympic torch

So, what we are saying is that Scotland holds the record so far this year for the highest recorded temperature, AND it was in May? Exceptional, surely?

Originally, yes. However, as of 7 years ago, south of Hadrians Wall. Berkshire, in fact.

Will be quite possible that this happens, sounds mad but yeah... it can still happen for end of year result, if we get to October and 29.3*C hasn't been breached then blimey...
