I've been traveling most of today so a scan across the UK...

Coniston, Lake District - very warm & sunny start with only a few clouds around.

Buxton and surroundings - 6/8 to 7/8 cloud cover feeling very warm & humid even at 1400 feet altitude farm I visited.

Nottingham - max 24.2c with some cloud around. 16.6c at 11pm but feels fresher and breezier.

The low St predicted for today has appeared in quite a number of places over and east of the main north-south hills in England.

Calm and chilly night with minimum of 6.8C, now wind is brisk from east so doubtful we will top 20C despite good sunny spells.

6.8?? I wouldn't have predicted that in a million years.. that's very cool indeed for August.. surely the coolest August night in recent times for you? Or is that more common that I would assume?

It was cool here yesterday so not far to fall under clear skies overnight.

Last year August 31st went down to 1.8C.

Yes, a much cloudier day in the areas that were projected by GFS to be cool. GFS was guilty of over-egging the low temperatures IMHO, but it evidently picked up on the advancing cloud sheet correctly.

It peaked at 25.4C yesterday and was quite humid too, today however the cloud has limited the temps, currently 21.8C but not so humid which is nice! Still waiting to get a low below 11.0C for this month!

5 degrees at Shap last night, 4.3 two nights ago. Had 2.3 on 14th July.

Tulloch Bridge was 2.6 last night and 0.4 yesterday.

A max of only 25c today. I would have expected a lot more given how todays chart looked.

Here we barely got to 20c and it actually felt chilly this evening. Whats going on?

The incoming air is not as hot as it could be, MH. That's really all there is to it, IMO?
