I few areas east of the Pennines have done very well out of this. I'm currently up at Middlebrook in Bolton and can see Winter Hill and Rivington are snowier than down here. There was a good 3 or 4 cm on my car this morning.

NMM temps of 6'c out across Cheshire associated with this trough behind the front, wether altitude will make any difference I can't say for certain but it's sleeting amongst the frontal-zone with a embeded temp of 4'c south of Sheffield so the trough may add a few cm across the tops, but for snow lovers the next few hours will be the 'photogenic' timeframe before the melt begins.

The 850hpa -5c isotherm is due to make inroads into our region again later, probably just as the showers die out in the west and reinvigorate in the east. Sod's law for us really! Currently 3c, increased from 0c at 830am.

The joys of the warm Irish sea!

It maxed out at 8.8, seems to be on its way down (although currently back up to 7.0) or bouncing around in the rain showers, at least it looks like a streamer is setting up for the S.E later tonight..

Hail shower just hit, winds whipped up and temp down from 4.7 to 3.2 in the space of a few minutes. Now raining.

Doesn't it just get on your nerves how they do better than us for snow!

Rain & hail showers whipping through here. Unsure on the temp as I'm at college.

Expect showers to turn increasingly wintry after around 3pm as upper temperatures tumble below the magical -5C mark.

I'd like to know what app that is too, currently I use Rain Alarm which has a horrible resolution.

I think hail is the closest we will get to snow today, though I have known streamers to give an inch of hail/graupel here before now!

    Thanks!

I agree with you on the -5c isotherm coming back but I hope it's not after the winds change too much and strip us of any moisture from the Irish Sea, which is what is forecast. I'm hoping it will give us a few hours of wintryness as I've seen that happen before.
