Heavy snow now in Marple, starting to cover - heaviest we've had during this cold spell

It's difficult for snow to lie in March/April just because the strength of the sun is so much more powerful than Jan/Feb. the snow last week did nothing during the day, but accumulated massively during the night. It takes sustained heavy snow this time of year for it to be effective during the day.

Strange these showers are making it over the Pennines, not only that, they seem to be pepping up on the West side of the Pennines.

Its getting that time of year where any snow exposed to dark surfaces or open ground 'fizzles' into nothing as soon as any sun comes out, we had 1cm of lying snow here an hour ago which has now disappeared. Any substantial snowfall as seen like on Friday really needs the drifting and 850hpa temps in order to remain sticking to any surfaces.

This snow is pointless during daylight sooner the weather warms up, the better.

It never would stick at this time of year but it would if it snows overnight. Just nice to see snow falling.

Some very heavy snow showers today! with some huge flakes at times! Not really stuck anywhere though except a dusting in shady areas.

My forecast tonight: clear skies and widespread frost. This time it is for real!!

So no snow tonight.

The term for snow that wouldn't stick to the ground is ''white rain''.
