Stop it.....I'm having hysterics here. My neice thinks I've gone barmy. Daft beggars. Posted Image

You are listed as "totally bonkers" so they may have a point Posted Image

Anyway, fed and watered (and showered too) so in for the night for sure now, did put a bit of recycling out a short while ago and whilst still breezy it seems a far bit cooler too, being semi rural I expect a possible frost here by the morning.  At least it is still dry, some bonus there.

I think I might be going stir-crazy with the lack of white stuff this winter....just saw my first gritter this season and jumped onto the radar to see...nothing.

Not a shower in sight, and the roads have dried up nicely in the moderate breeze.  Must be trying to get at least some of their over-abundant salt stockpile out the door.

I think that it might be a bit icy before the storm comes in, it is 3.8c in the london suburbes already. Or, they have so much grit they are trying to get rid of it.

That certainly wasn't my experience of it, a half an hour spell of 60mph gusts a few trees and fences down that's all we got here from St Jude definitely not the biggest since 87 infact nowhere near it the Burn's Day Storm and October storms in 2000 and 02 where much much worse!

It was quite bad here for a bit nothing like 87 though. It closed the admiralty pier which I think is still closed for health and safety reasons. They have to replace all the railings. And some sort of structural damage although I do not know what.

I can't believe that on this Sky 1 Storm Nation programme is still bothering to compare St Jude with 1987, it's becoming embarrassing because they overhyped it and they know it but they don't want to back down on the hype they created because it'll make them look bad but to be honest the fact that their continuing to harp on about it is only making them look even more stupid, with had several storms since St Jude across Britain that have been worse then what St Jude was and longer lasting yesterdays being a classic example!

These amazing satellite images reveal the devastating march of floodwater across the Somerset Levels. The snapshots were taken 400 miles above the earth by the UK Space Agency's disaster monitoring satellite, the UK-DMC2, before and after the region was flooded. The astonishing images show the Rivers Parrett and Tone bursting their banks with thousands of gallons of water drowning low-lying villages. Tiny islands have been formed where meeting waterways have burst their banks - including the tiny village of Muchelney, cut off by the Parrett and Yeo for seven weeks.

From up above: Satellite photos of the River Parrett on the Somerset Levels taken before (left) the recent flooding and after (right), showing the full extent of the flooded area. The colours of the images have been changed to make them easier to understand - land is represented by green and water represented by blue

People have short memories that's all I can say, I was only just turned 14 (it was the night after my birthday) and I can remember it like yesterday almost it was so terrifying. Woke up about 2am and my double glazed bedroom windows where rumbling like they where about to come through the rain was lashing against it also and the noise from the wind was nearly a deafening roar, I can visibly remember the 40'ft tall tree swaying right over in 1 direction and snapping back up in the other it was without a doubt the most terrifying storm I've experienced and made St Jude look like a late summer breeze. It's the only time I woke up and thought have I landed in a Florida hurricane!

That's what 87 done to me. Actually something in my garden made me think I'd landed in tornado alley if I had known what a tornado was then. Wind was going round in a circle there were flashes but no thunder but the wind sounded like thunder.

Yes but don't forget that the Met Office didn't forecast the 100mph winds and issue the RED warnings until yesterday morning so the warnings for tomorrow night may well be upgraded significantly throughout tomorrow daytime if the forecasters think it necessary.

Those flashes where probably power cables short circuiting.

Some big gusts 60mph seems likely across the board based on that chart I posted a link to above!

Probably, but I think all the electric is under ground or in houses in west London.
