There are plenty of vids on Youtube of close lightning strikes e.g.

but never seen the blue phenomenon you're talking about. Of course, it could be possibly an extension of electric current dancing around conductors (everything on the ground). There is the phenomenon of St Elmo's fire which is often reported as blue dancing light but I thought that was attributed to static.

I'm glad you saw the same green lightning flash that I did as I've never seen lightning of that colour before. Somebody posted a link about it above but I could not read as I was not a member of the site? National Geographic?

Woop distant thunder and lightning to the South/South East, quite a way away but hopefully getting closer!

Looks like something is kicking off north of Wolverhampton now...near Stafford.

You see, was there any need to be so pessimistic in the first place? Lol.

Lightning kicking off again here. Round 2! :D

Still 20.5c here.

Yep, this could be a night to remember. Plenty kicking off to our south and coming northwards.

Same here, add NW and overhead. Some thunder booming around too but not a drop of rain and clear patches through which stars are visible.

Looking like everything is gonna be a tad too west here. Unless that stuff by Eastbourne comes over. Not holding out hope though....

Some real nice flickers here now. Not sure if the one to my SW but the lightning just then seemed to outline what looked like some sort of wall or shelf cloud. Might be wrong as its hard to tell when you get a fraction of a second to see! No real thunder though so very elevated but lovely to see.

Just had a thunderbolt strike Radstock Town Centre. Not sure what it hit but sparks visibly flew everywhere down there. Deafening thunder as a result. Knocked webcams and Weather Station out for now I'm afraid.

Only 3-5 seconds between lightning and thunder, but it still isn't raining and the thunder is a really low boom, like a distant jet or train, not the loud crashes we had this morning. Seems to be jumping from cloud to cloud to another cloud as its illuminating a large area.

Looks like this one i can see is travelling up the Severn valley...which would take the storm all the way into Telford! Going to be some happy posts from there soon!

Yeah some really brilliant flashes this one out to my WSW/W now. Thought I saw an anvil crawler a moment ago!

Four large supercells coming out of France and bending north-westwards around the Low currently centred on Biscay. Some very unstable air coming our way and favouring the Southwest and Wales through tomorrow morning. If the whole system moves NEwards as predicted then a whole swathe of the west will get hit including Northern parts.

Intense rain and associated thunder lightning to my east. I felt sorry for the plane that looked to be lowering altitude to land somewhere around here (Cardiff?)

The bad news is that everything seems to be slipping to our west now.

The good news is that it's giving us a show as it does so.

Indeed, no rain here yet. But some cracking lightning. More than happy with that. :) Does seem to be easing off in southern parts though for now.

You'll have a better view than me in Stourbridge. Also, I live on the east side of the hill in Upper Gornal, so I have a superb view of Birmingham and Walsall, but not so good of the west. If it wasn't so late I'd get myself down Jews lane where the view is superb.
