The low went through here just after midnight. The METO forecast was spot on. The wind then picked up but not too bad as the highest gust during the night so far is recently at 49 mph.

 

Currently a line of heavy showers.

my 8th air frost of the winter! A low of -0.7C now on -0.1C with a veil of upper cloud, with some St beneath it, almost no wind

 

cor at 0900=not upper cloud it was all St, cleared to a blue sky, now about 7/8 again, around 3-500ft I would estimate.

Friday 28th February 2014:

 

Clear spells with ground frost last night and in to the early hours. Cloud quickly increased to overcast before dawn with the odd spot of light rain around daybreak. At observation, overcast, feeling cold in a moderate NE wind. Rain stopped.

Clear spells for a short time last night before cloud increased. A spells of moderate rain and gusty winds through the early hours, clearing towards dawn. The morning so far has seen sunny spells with a moderate to heavy showers at this location just before observation. Rain stopped now, sunny spells. Further sunny spells through the day with much cumulonimbus building, providing striking contrasts with deep blue sky and towering clouds. Showers were brief with quick heavy bursts lasting a few seconds. Clear spells through the evening.

Thick fog cleared by 1000 to leave a dry  day with occasional brighter intervals through an almost complete cover of high and medium level cloud. The light NE breeze backed NW by mid-afternoon.

Rain most of the day, with the only significant break around lunchtime. Maximum 7.8, minimum 2.9. Wind moderate NE.

And so ends the first meteorological winter in the

12 I've experienced in Reading without any sign of wintry precipitation. Reminds me of when I lived in Southampton, where snow-free winters are quite common.
