Some lively downpours to the E of here. NMM does have the action drifting E later on. The skies here look 'interesting' but clearly capped, might be a convergence zone that's breaking the cap to the E.

That would suggest your facing South .. as the night goes on we may get something ^_^ I want the storms to come West of you !

I am hoping for a bit of storm action this weekend into next week as I am taking a long weekend break around the French Pyrenees.

This high pressure to the west, is it conducive to aiding thunderstorms? Or could we do with it drifting east over Europe, would that e courage warm air over us from France/Spain? Or is there something else essential missing?

I am no expert on these things but I  would say high to the west is not generally good, much better to the east , to allow hotter air from france and spain up over us, these are known as spanish plumes and if the pressure is not too  high it will not take much to destabilise the bouyant humid air to form storms

Looks to be a weak trough lying across parts of Scotland and Northern England at the moment

which is producing the odd heavy shower and storm.

UKV model picked them out pretty well.

Thought that's what you meant, they were tracking SSW through Powys and close to Llandovery.

Was in the exact same situation yesterday, heavy showers not really far away and towers going up nearby. Headed out but came to nothing, was a nice evening tho.

Could see the thunderhead of the storm in East Scotland today, looked meaty! Couldnt believe how far away it was when I was finally able to check the radar, was about 100 miles away as the crow flies. Could clearly see the bubbling congestus on the rear as it was backbuilding and the glaciated anvil being blown SE. Glad I never started driving to catch it, would never have got there before it decayed!

I'm ready and waiting for anything convective - got my new camera with 1200 fps video mode :-D

Looking potentially good for next week with a more unsettled theme... Anyone taken a look at the science charts?

Blue skies and warm all day here but now dark clouds are brewing, wind's picked up, neighbourhood dogs are going bonkers and I've got a headache.
