Well the 80F mark was broken today (27.7C) which is a start :)

So not quite the 28 degrees the BBC said might be possible, but very respectable all the same. On average the maximum temp of the year usually occurs at some stage from mid July to mid August - so plenty of time yet..

Still believe 32 degrees will be reached at some point probably Gravesend or Heathrow..

Here, we have yet to break 24 degrees, quite normal at this stage in the summer, on average our highest max of the year is about 27 degrees and we will have normally hit it by early-mid August (mind 2012 was dismal, 24 degrees was our max!), anything above 30 degrees is fairly rare, but we just about managed 30 degrees last July, before then we have to go back to July 2006 and before then August 2003. We enjoyed a  run of maxima between 27-29 degrees last July lasting upwards of a week which is rare for the Lake District, a run of maxima between 24-26 degrees of up to a week in duration is about the best we can normally hope for in a good summer. In an average summer a run of days between 22-25 degrees is usually the best we can muster, with the odd 26 and 27 degrees thrown in for good measure, lengthy spells of temps between 18-22 degrees are much more the norm, akin to what we have had recently.

28.7C was the highest recorded maximum in Essex and north norfolk. Well that makes this summer a little better. Well for this area anyway.

Still cannot get to 21C here this summer, next few days will continue the theme.Even when the wind is not more or less of the North Sea it is so strong temperatures are suppressed. It was funny the BBC weather talked about how the SE would become much fresher at 22C

Nothing higher than 24 here, would be really nice if for once the yearly high was outside the southeast/E Anglia. It often was before the late 90s.

Surely not the first year ever not to top 25 here?

No higher than 20.8C so far this year which is extremely poor. Lowest annual max I have recorded since 2005 was 23.8C in 2010 with 2012 the only other year not to reach 25C.

The poor summers of the early 2000s were actually worse than 2007 onwards for lack of high maxima with Dyce managing only 23.0C in 2000 and 23.3C in 2002. Further back 1974 and 1988 both failed to reach 23C and 1963 had the lowest annual max of 22.2C.

Suspect we will easily see somewhere recording the magic 30 degrees over the next 2-3 days, with 31 degrees a distinct possibility and outside chance of 32 degrees, the heat hasn't had enough time to build over the continent to achieve 32 degrees + just yet.. but who knows..

Whether the coming spell delivers the highest maxima of the year we will have to see.

On average the highest maxima of the year usually occurs between around now and about the 12th August.

This thread has been lost somewhat in recent weeks despite the very warm conditions. Could someone post the highest max of the year so far - I think it is about 32.7 degrees at Gravesend - my guess was Gravesend 32 degrees, so if this remains the case, I've done preety well.

The odds of achieving a higher figure look very slim, yes we can still get temps above 32 degrees late August and even early September, but the chances become very very slim.
