Felt damn cold today, maximum 5.5c but felt really raw.

Plenty of wind and rain tonight and into tomorrow with more of the same expected on Saturday then.........

Dare I say it, possibly a chance of some snow later in the day and into Sunday.

Then rinse and repeat into the next although it looks like colder should replace mild with more snow within the forecast.

Certainly an interesting few days weather watching coming up.

The tide looks like it could be turning for us coldies and not

Before time, i would be very surprised if many in the region

Have not seen snow flakes by this time next week

The next seven days continues the theme between the two

Airmasses, after that in FI it looks interesting to say the least

Di Oxberry mentioned snow in her forecast and even seemed quite excited about it.

Probably she's knows it won't happen because it's the NW and we just don't get snow.

No doubt she's got the auto cue ready and waiting with "thankfully the promised blizzard conditions fizzled out before they reached our region and at least it's mild for the time of year"

ECM continues the theme, apart from Monday's slight warm

Up, by Tuesday another cold plunge from the NW with, yes

I will say it Snow Showers

Less green more white for your parts nothing substantial - no hesitation asked C.S

Enjoy

I hope you all get buried if that suits your boat realistically I'd say 1-3cm to low levels 10cm+'for high ground, you lot are ideally located, generally staying on the cold side in the NW...Ciao

You survived

NW regional has a nice core group, reading the past few days of highly intellectual discussion brightened my day, spilled my milk almost. do not change!!

Kind regards

What's the jet sting

if you look at head of the storm it looks like a stinger ,rapidly decending cold dry air which when reaching the ground increases wind speed and gusts dramatically ,very dangerous and destructive !!... Google jet sting images for a clearer idea :).. Edited by Mokidugway

What's the jet sting

A sting jet is a flow of air that originates in the cloud head associated with a rapidly deepening storm and allows the high altitude winds to reach the surface, It develops on the south side of the hooked tail of cloud about 5km or so above the ground. The sting jet can take around 3 to 4 hours to descend towards ground level and, as it does so, it passes through layers of ice crystals that evaporate. This evaporative cooling causes the sting jet to accelerate to speeds of more than 100mph giving some vicious gusts at ground level.
