A light dusting in Ponteland this evening. Very calm

That's surprising, wind is gusting round 30mph here with vicious windchill at +0.8C.
Has been snow flurries for a couple of hours.

We may see some sunshine this afternoon another cloudy night has kept the temperature above zero

Friday still looks like the day when we'll replace the colder air with something a bit milder a spell of heavy rain will will mark the change

True, but that fall was awesome for at least an hour and better than what others are getting currently. I never saw these synoptics as good for us anyway. Wasn't it always going to be about stalling systems from the west? We need a NE'ly.

We've still had more snow than other parts of England this season.

Hi Nick, sorry for the late reply ... work gets in the way at times!

I seem to recall one run (I know!) showing NE'lies screaming across us, but never mind!

We had a good 3 hours of heavy snow where I work at Cobalt Business Park near the Silverlink (A19) and it settled a treat right from the off. Which is odd considering there was more snow (and it hung around longer) nearer the coast than it did further inland at home nearer Newcastle centre.

Anyway, the chilly weather is nearing the end now for another year

Do you know something, ahead of that band of rain the wind today was absolutely biting up here. The car thermometer said 3c but easily felt like -3 or lower.

The rain today briefly started sleety but was very rapidly replaced by rain.

I suspect it will feel quite pleasant this weekend as temperatures go from 3c to 13c potentially! Positively balmy!

Wet and windy across the region at the moment but things will improve by this afternoon I'd say between 12:00 and 14:00 we should start and see some sunshine developing the temperature will continue to rise getting towards 10c later this afternoon

It's been pleasantly mild though.

If I'm honest, if we can't have freezing cold and snowy weather then this weather type suits me.

So much warmer indoors with minimal heating :)
Not keen on very mild if it's gloomy and damp, but brighter this morning and 10C
We only got to 12.7 yesterday, January last year hit 13.9C on the 9th.

Some mainly very mild days ahead this week with the odd colder day... thurs and weekend? Main feature will be the wind this week along with heavy spells of rain, more so for high ground/peninnes and to the west of region.

Wild out there right now, wind had me up most of the night... gusts of up to 90mph @ higher points in our region, generally around 50-60mph elsewhere and slowly easing during afternoon but turning cooler.

Some wintry showers overnight in to saturday... then potential for another storm monday followed by colder weather midweek with chance of wintry weather.

Overall very intresting weather over coming weeks i would say.

Fairly normal-ish 59mph peak here so far, but Met office site suggests another spike between 9 and 10am.
On the plus side it's drying things up if anything.
