The rainfall totals around Fort William have got to be immense, if the radar is right. Its showing rainfall widely around 20mm an hour there now for most of the morning.

Got rain here, but the wind is more a concern its really strong and gusty.

Intense rainfall especially over W Scotland atm & 12hr ppn accumulations - Expect this to go up quite a bit before the rain clears given the current intensity.

Really underestimated the impact of the wind here, real damage being caused - daughter's school is closed as sections of roof have blown off, not happened before.

Yeah certainly been rough the last few hours, some gusts around 70mph. Many school now closed across Cumbria, A66 a tree has blown over near Embelton all details on Cumbria Crack.

School closures - http://www.cumbriacrack.com/2016/01/26/schools-closed-due-to-weather/

Exactly.  I think it disgraceful that the met office didn't give a red warning for the wind.  It's probably because we're in Wales

Was the 103mph gust an official reading?  Just looking at Met obs around that region (nearest stations Aberdaron, Capel Curig and Valley, which are notorious for much higher winds given exposure and topography) for past several hours and winds generally look to have been gusting 60-80mph.

Perhaps could argue that an advisory was warranted for exposed west. Though looking at obs for other parts  of the country, winds generally have been gusting around 50s and low 60s at peak.  Think severe gale force warnings are issued for winds that gust repeatedly in excess of 65mph over a set time period.  Though the threshhold for winds warnings in general different depending on location/region.

From their Twitter account,

You can see the data here http://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=IUNITEDK257

It's not an official station though by the looks of it so the reading may not be accurate. The closest official stations closest to the airport give gusts of 74 mph. Other non official stations closer to the airport give 50 to 60 mph gusts with Bethesda at 87 mph although its on higher ground and reported that gust at a completely different time of day.

The only thing I can think of is that Caernarfon Airport is literally right on an exposed beach, so would't be surprised to see a gust of 103mph!

Aye, wouldn't hold much confidence re. accuracy, if I'm honest. Sticks out in isolation on the graph as well, where winds just before and following the 103 reading were 70s, pushing 80.

Be interesting if Met make a reference to it at all.

Yep, I postponed work today on the strength of a deluge pre-forecasted, epic fail for me by the beeb weather team :/

Jonas lost himself in the southern peak district for a lot of south yarkshire today!

Dunno what to do regs outdoor work tomoz now? but a more veered approach from the fronts may leave us more prone to ppn tmoz, dependant on Microclimate muddles & misnomers.

Friday looks like a slight upgrade away from Scotland. W e may hit 60 mph in the early hours although I would have thought 50 mph  more likely which make sit nothing special

A stormy looking weekend coming up. Quite a long period of strong winds for northern England northwards 60 - 70 to 80 - 90 Scotland. Further south south yorkshire will only see a brief spell of winds 50 to 60 but more likely 50 mph so interesting but not outstandingly  so.

Sunday see's another spell at the moment shown further south this could all change though rapidly.

Very stormy across the north on Friday morning with gusts of 60-70mph and possibly 80-90mph+  for the north of Scotland.

And again on Monday potentially, UKMO also showing a deep depression for Monday.

Met Office summit forecast for CairnGorm has a peak on Friday of 133mph and it's usually pretty conservative compared to what the Summit AWS and Funicular tunnel mouth AWS records!

No real change for Friday bit of whoopsee on the forecast which said 90 mph anywhere in the UK. After Friday mostly quiet across the uk over the weekend with only the south west getting a 60 mph blow on Sunday morning. Next big one Monday.
