Just noticed how much rain fell yesterday. I recorded 18mm for yesterday & 4mm early this morning, making that 22mm over a 24hr period.

Doubled the rain total for this month in less than 24hrs

Just scrabbled up 15.6°C down here on the coast. Definitely feels warmer than the last few days, and the sun is truly welcomed.

Been a lovely afternoon here. Been for a walk along the beach and it felt warm in the sun with no breeze. Reached 16.8°C not long ago.

Been dark and dank here all day, a far cry from the sunny south coast.

Sun finally broke through at 4pm here. Currently watching the mist build and flow in front of the house

I can see a birdhouse ;)

The cloud lifted here for a time around 1:30pm, then cloud rolled back in and its been on/off for much of the rest of the afternoon and evening, a few breaks followed by cloud rolling back in and vis dropping once again!

They might be giants you know! :D

Mist starting to become prominent here in the shire now, as daylight fades.

10mm of rain yesterday and overnight took the monthly total to 41mm which barring a surprise looks set to be the final total, therefore a dry October.

Shows how dangerous it is out there tonight on the roads. An hour ago visibility was less than 50yds then less than an hour later fog has lifted as cloud rolls over the top.

Fog is like a daily occurrence with low cloud here over last week or so but it does strange things to your mind when searching for that junction you know is there somewhere! :fool:

Very foggy first thing but this has quickly lifted save for a few corners and it's not just grey again as per yesterday.

It's far too early to be able to forecast, however the basics are if the weather is coming from the East or North it will be mostly dry/cold and potentially wintry. If it's from the West it will be a mixture of chilly/showery and mild/wet. If it's from the South or South West it will be mild/balmy and frequently wet. The latter is what we had for virtually all of December last year with max temps of 13c-15c and min temps remaining in double figures.

Cheers mate. Thats much warmer than other parts of the UK so it doesn't sound ridiculously cold.

Granted though that in most winters we'd do well (or badly depending) to get up to 13C - last year's persistence of long drawn southwesterlies contributed to that. Those sorts of temperatures are also most common earlier on in the winter. On average I'd expect maxes to be around 4-8C and minima -2C - 4C. Built up areas possibly a bit warmer than that and rural areas inevitably colder than that.
