A rise likely tomorrow as its already 7c here today after a low of 4c.

Tuesday we were forecast to get to double figures however it now looks like we wont get above 6/7c.

Estimating Jan finishing at 3.3c.

Firby remains online.

Despite yesterdays mean temp of 5.6c we have remained at 3.1c, 0.4c below the 1981-2010 average.

We were forecast double figures today a few days ago but today's max is 5.2c so far today.

Sunny old Sheffield on 3.9C which will be the final figure. Still the fifth driest on record all depends how much rain we get tonight.

Expecting a marked downward adjustment this month, at least 0.3 degrees, possibly 0.4 degrees, even 0.5 degrees, so good chance we may just creep into the 3's. A very near average CET month whatever the finish, had the block to the east pushed further NW by a couple of hundred miles, then a cold CET could have been recorded, nothing major but perhaps enough to knock a degree off what looks like being the finishing mark.

Here it has been rather topsy turvy sort of month temp wise, first week alternating cold and mild days with some decent frost, second week mild to start then cold, third week near average, last week generally cold, and an ice day on the 26 Jan, the weekend gone was colder than predicted as well. Even today only climbed to 8 degrees, hardly very mild.

However, despite some cold conditions, we recorded three days only with snow falling, and nothing lying very dissapointing, more snowless than last Jan even.

The most notable aspect of the weather has been the dryness, think NW England has only had 50% of average amount. How different this winter is shaping up to be compared to last winter, I've said many a times how extreme wet periods have often been followed by notably dry periods, its been relatively dry since August here now.

Finished at 3.9C -0.3C below average but would be called basically average I would think by the met office. No doubt Johnh would correct me.

Rainfall just 39.3mm 48.5% of average the 6th driest on our records.

The estimate was 4.45 after 31 days.

I would expect the adjusted final value to be 4.0 to 4.2.

I still think we will have a record breaking downward correction this time, at least 0.5 of a degree.:shok:

Yes, I would not be that surprised if they settle on 3.8 or 3.9, but 4.0 or 4.1 seem most likely. Somebody must be on holidays over at Hadleyland.

I hope they settle on 3.8

Maybe they're afraid of a blast from Trump?

Looking at January's CET, it is now showing 4.8C. Can this possibly be correct?

In other words they are showing a 0.4C UPWARD adjustment.

Perhaps its their plan to thwart Trump?

We can have a new January contest where people try to predict the actual final value. Bonus points for saying when that will appear. My entry is 4.0 rounded from 4.02 and appearing Monday 1034z.
