It is possible to get back edge snow on Friday morning according to 6z GFS. I only just found it out on the latest Gav's videos on YouTube.

I don't know whether it is still on 12z.

You've got to laugh 10 day weather giving me a 63% snow chance on 43 mm of ppn that's a whopping 43cm of snow

Think 4.3cm and anything else is a bonus.

Interesting that today was the day the BBC stopped using the met office for their forecasts. The BBC forecast today had the snow fizzling out by lunchtime and then blue skies the met office had light snow until five then skies slowly clearing. The met office temperature prediction was for a high of 1 the BBC said it would be 4-5. Whatever we might say about the met office their forecast for today was pretty accurate

I think the problem was last night wasn't clear. The cold air was in place but the ground could not lose heat effectively enough through radiation. A frost in the first part of the night and then the cloud cover to minimise solar radiation may have made more surfaces retain snow cover.

Early February 2012, snow stuck immediately even though it start falling during the late morning. The ground was frozen from the frost of the previous night.
