Looks like humidity is increasing and light getting less powerful so hopefully anything now will settle and not evaporate.

For those disappointed so far - if you look at the warnings for today, also take a look at the warning matrix for our region. The probability is the lowest level, but potential moderate impact. Incidentally looks like Wednesday's risk is between today's and tomorrow's, so only one step down from amber. It's not just snow totals it's also probability that drive the colours so still time for upgrades like today's.

The probability shoots up in the early hours of tomorrow with the same impact level, hence the amber warning.

Edit: just noticed my location is now in the amber zone, so still time for more changes!

Yep amber warning now extends into much of E/NE & S London.

Convection streamer building nicely now in the estuary.

Showers this morning were a lot more widespread than forecast so hopefully they will also be tonight.

Line through Cambridge has done quite well - heavy shower after heavy shower since lunchtime. Wind turning more NE'ly in next few hours? Expect these to push further South later on, probably a bit of a drier spell further North in EA later? An ever developing set up.....

My dad always asks me why we have 2 forecasts at lunch (regional following national) and I say it's because on the regional one's give you more information about where you live, well how wrong could I have been after watching the BBC Look East 1.30pm just a moment ago with Kate Kinsella. She just reiterated the same old thing Darren Bett just said on the National forecast 'Bitterly cold wind' 'Amber warning' 'very cold temperatures' 'snow showers' without no detail about possible snow depths and possible areas of interest tonight - so how wrong I was! At least Bett mentioned 'Thames tickler' which made me chuckle...so why not with a local BBC Look East forecast?

By the way the extended forecast for the weekend look milder particularly for Sunday with 7c temps - but it did come from Look East, so take that with a pinch of salt which is about the grand total that the council has managed to put out around here...

I always thought it was a Streamer!:D

I’m quietly optimistic seeing the big rash of showers over the country today, they will only get heavier tomorrow with the deeper cold and a strong sun, a very unusual set up for the Uk.

They wont make it any further south than The Old Bridge Hotel !

My instincts proved right again and it's the second time the weather has stopped me working! I was hoping to photograph a gig in London, but after knowing about the weather to come I never bothered applying for the pass.
As they have no trains running at all after 22:00 I definitely couldn't have done it, I'd have never been able to get home. Cosy night in with my nearby lamp post instead.
I once missed a gig before because of snow, I think it was the winter of 2009/10.

Tbh, we were forecast very few showers to make it as far as Cambs today. Already heavy shower no3 in just 2 hrs in central Cambridge, with a decent coating. We're out of both Amber warning zones tonight but these events are always a now-cast scenario. Lets see what the night brings. Wednesday and Thursday still hold significant interest. Snowing as I type...

Anyone who knows their onions explain why the amber warning has been extended please?

Slight change to the orientation or just higher intensity?

What a crap cold spell so far, the hype had us believe an eighties style record breaker was on the cards, instead we end up with a limp squib and all the rampers will look totally daft too, (:oops:john hammond), it's pretty much finished by Saturday, don't believe the hype because it usually ends up as tripe:good:
