When I went out to work this morning at about 7:25am,it was raining here in Wigan which I wasn't expecting ,however tonight when I returned one of the cars (my son's who is in Australia)on our drive was covered in what is usually termed saharan dust, where did it come from ,I thought the wind was from a N/NW direction...any ideas folks?

Funny that, I noticed it on a few cars driving past today but just assumed it was unwashed cars, either that, or it’s the same thing that happened to you... pollution levels are low and certainly can’t be Saharan dust so I don’t know

I could be wrong but it's most likely to be pollen, lots of trees are starting to blossom, so it could be that.

I suffer a little with hay fever and my eyes have been playing up today.

Hopefully we can get a definitive answer from someone with more knowledge, as my car is filthy and was going to wash it, but I will probably hold off for a little while, it's not like  I don't have to time

Probably some form of pollen. I was sneezing for 3/4 days straight a couple of days ago and I don't even usually suffer from hayfever!

Also after a number of dry days it could have been dust deposits.

The ongoing progressive pattern over southern Europe will result in the advection of Saharan dust transport towards France, reaching England and Ireland.
