Some massive cloud has just appeared to my NW.

Looks like a mothership.

Had a shower earlier, but it just didn’t have that punch in it to electrify. A strange day where it’s been so close yet so far with convection. Wrong side of marginal sums it up!

Found out that cloud was the shower to the north of Northampton. I have my camera already recording that cloud because I have a feeling if it does produce any lightning there will only be one strike!

I was tracking that Brummy cell earlier and on the 4th photo you can see it smudging out on the tops, this is when it started dropping PPN

Looks like Estofex were correct in the end sadly.  Been a wonderful day for cloud spotting, got some great photos and time lapses today and it looked so close to those clouds producing something but just fell short.

Oooo, looks like I may be in for one last chance here! Towering cumulus to my east along with a radar return.

A chance for the NW/North tomorrow due to a convergence passing over which will help initiate lifting over the Pennines and Yorks Moors, only a 25% risk locally for now but i'll take it over nothing.

Not looking good here in Bedford so my only hope would be some distant light shows to my W/NW.

Thank you, just seen Convective Weathers post for tomorrow, and I was surprised not to see any green! But they may do when confidence improves

THUNDERSTORM OUTLOOK - SAT 09 MAY 2020

Valid: Saturday 09 May 00z - Sunday 10 May 00z

Heavy showers are expected to develop once again over parts of W England, Wales, N England, Ireland and perhaps the odd one in Scotland. These showers will be driven once again by diurnal heating. 200-700j/kg CAPE will be present, which will be enough to support some heavy showers and perhaps with the odd lightning strike. A strong cap might restrict the cloud depth, meaning that how much lightning is produced in some areas is questionable.

On Saturday night, some elevated showers/thunderstorms will drift up from N France, coming to a halt near the Channel Islands and just off the coast of N France. The amount of lightning being produced in these elevated heavy showers once again will be questionable. A moderate risk may be issued to some areas, but because Friday doesn't see much changes to Saturday, it is unlikely at this stage.

Got a little reminiscent tonight of one of my best captures (from film here) of lightning over the years - this was back in Essex a good few years ago now, a little shower popped up from nowhere and suddenly got all electrical on me.  A rainbow across the sky and then lighting to boot all in one was the gift.

  • Risk of thunderstorms overnight with lightning and hail

Northern France has warnings for thunderstorms for the start of May. With favourable ingredients of warm moist air, high CAPE and a warm front, southern Britain could see storms, hail and lightning. Read more here
