Listening to a few songs from August 1980 today. These songs remind me of a fading summer and the coming of autumn.

Private Life - Grace Jones

Ashes to Ashes - David Bowie

Wednesday Week - The Undertones

Babooska(can’t spell that damn word) - Kate Bush

Abba - Winner takes it all

Upside Down - Diana Ross

Oops up - The Gap Band

9-5 - Sheena Easton

Give me the night - George Benson

Other songs that remind me of summer fading, or late summer are:

Club Tropicana - Wham

Rockit - Herbie Hancock

I’m Still Standing - Elton John

I’ll Fly for you - Spandau Ballet

After the love has gone - Earth Wind and Fire

Yes, all those are classics. Might as well add Stereotype by The Specials while we’re at it.

Fairground by Simply red, it reminds me of October 1995 which was an Indian summer month,

Haha, yeah I remember that and they played it to death. The warm sunny October, before the cold winter of 95/96.

Greece 2000 by Three drives on a vinyl ...... has a reflective mood, the summer party is over and is in its last throws.

Still im sad by the Yardbirds, and turn to earth (not a single) "Dying leaves of seasons brown, Losing life as they drift down"

Run by Sandie Shaw,  samples a storm and wind, cant get much more autumnal then that!

Some velvet morning by Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra ... extremely moody Lee sounds foreboding like Autumn compared with Nancys summery female vocals

For me its the mood of the song that counts more then the time of year it was released

Indian Summer by Stereophonics. Although I was young when they came out I also associate Wonderwall by Oasis and Country House by Blur with early autumn.

‘Time of No Reply’ by Nick Drake (opening lines: Summer was gone and the heat died down / And Autumn reached for her golden crown..”) and, at the other end of the music spectrum, ‘Give It’ by X-Press 2...

Both get played at this time of year!
